    Hi Lads,

Right, ive been looking around for a car for a while now. Ive got about 8 grand to spend, maybe 10 max.

I cant decide on something nice to get though. Im wondering whether to spend the 10 grand, get something along the lines of a focus 1.8 diesel '08, to save on tax and it will atleast last me a few years, or get something a bit older and more fun around the 4-6 grand mark and use the extra money for tax, maybe an is200 or something .

Looking for something with a bit of speed but am at a loss as to what to get!!

    Any help appreciated!

At 100km per week you should defo go for the fun car they can't be given away at the moment with everybody trading in for diesels !

Go and go for long test drives in some of what you fancy, spend a good few weekends doing this before you make up your mind , and leave the sellers stew with silly offers, they may well accept these in time.

    Sort out insurance quotes first

€935 but sure this one is taxed til the end of the year give him a ring about the mileage NOW.

If the seller isn't Irish don't let this be a barrier as he'll find it hard to do a deal.

Go on buy it and prob solved spend the surplus on half a dozen good holidays

I think the Bmw would be easier to insure. Quinn have pulled out of the Jap market and all these are being parked up.

No I just knew a search on a Bmw over 2.0 ltr would throw up a bargain.
Check out my "This weeks classic that i'm not buying thread "and you'll see where i'm coming from addicted to looking at car ads

You can get "low tax" 08 or later petrol cars too don't forget.

On a lowish annual mileage diesel makes little or no financial sense.

that 330 is beautiful aswell bigus! really nice! ive never considered buying a car with such high mileage though, would this not bother you? would you be worried rather?

ill have a look at that thread.

as far as the DC5/DC2 is concerned maybe that might be just too much..

i was looking at a nice 08 focus but my da has one! :o im only 24, is this normal ! :D

    No probs with high mileage,
I've had many biggish cars that cost me little or no depreciation or repair cost over the years.

Depreciation is your biggest bill not Tax or Fuel, so if you don't tie up much capital your depreciation therefore be less.

    1975 VW Beetle.
    €50 to tax for year
    €230 insurance
    very easy on the petrol.
    Looks great.
    Will only hold its value.
    No NCT needed.
    It's a win win .

Oh yeah there's also one for sale on adverts for under 5000 squid. It's not mine promise.

Well if you're suggesting vintage cars to save on tax, you won't beat this:
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Porsche/928/201111201603043/advert?channel=CARS

    Porsche 928, 4.5L V8, it's a 1980 so just 50 euro tax and no NCT!

What's more, this car is surprisingly modern on the inside and the build quality is a cut above a typical new car. If I was back in Ireland and in the market for a car I would snap this up in a heartbeat.

Pity it's not a manual is all. And no, I'm not the one selling it and I don't know the seller :) I just think they're deadly value for the money given the cost of tax.
