Why is there oil in here??

    Can anyone tell me why there might be oil sitting in and around the crankcase breather filter. I'm just about to change the old filter. Might it be coming from the breather filter? See pic below. 02 BMW 320d.

    The pipe could be split.

    I'd say its from the breather seal, and while your that far make sure its the updated breather without the foam.

    That's a much better diagnosis crosshair1. Ah no, I couldn't have seen it coming from anywhere else really. I got the new breather from Joe Duffys yesterday, its got rubber seals. cheers.

    Its usually a sign that the breather filter was long overdue a change..
