I would advice again sending out supples yourself, most charity strongly discourage it as it can cause more problems. Larger charity of course buy in bulk and of course receive considerable discounts, they can get more for your money and it is easy for them to deal with the logistics themselves as any transportation is done in house and does not put any more pressure on the infrastructure of the country.

My 2 cents is to donate to the large organizations that can make the post of it. http://www.redcross.ie/ as i have already done

( you also have got remember at the moment japan has request limited international aid, so even with these larger organizations there are limited projects in place, just the other side of the coin )

I was under the impression Japan had declined Irish aid, but the aid was still available upon request.

    EDIT:http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0314/breaking56.html

So maybe money donations would be the best route if this were to happen
The Japanese government has declined an offer of Irish aid for those displaced by last Friday’s earthquake and resultant tsunami, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore has said.

Mr Gilmore said Japan was “probably the best-prepared country in the world for a major disaster”, and the Japanese Red Cross mobilised 62 response teams in the hours immediately following the earthquake.

It had nearly 400 doctors, nurses and support staff providing assistance in affected areas through mobile medical clinics.

However, Mr Gilmore said he had asked the Irish Ambassador in Tokyo John Neary to continue to keep in touch with the relief operation.

The Irish Aid Rapid Response Corps and Malaysia-based emergency stockpiles would remain available as the relief effort wore on, he said. The emergency stockpiles include temporary shelters, blankets, and water and sanitation equipment.

The Japanese have distributed more then 30,000 blankets to people who were evacuated before the tsunami struck and are now housed in temporary shelters set up in schools and public buildings.

“The Japanese Red Cross is working with the communities most-affected by the disaster and are providing vital emergency relief. Our embassy in Tokyo is in contact with them and with the Japanese government and we have offered our assistance."

"We are also in contact with the United Nations, who have sent a disaster assessment team to Japan” said the Tánaiste.

The mayor of Killarney, Donal Grady, today called on the Government to lead the way and offer shelter and refuge to Japanese earthquake victims.

Mr Grady said the southern region had a long association with Japanese companies who had been very good employers. “There are plenty of empty houses here. We should lead the way,” he said.

Astellas, a pharmaceutical company based in Killorglin whose headquarters are in Tokyo, announced yesterday it was donating donated €1 million to the Japanese earthquake relief fund. It is also donating medicines.

I have had to mention this on another thread recently. Due to the current situation in Japan can users please post with a little respect for the situation at hand.

Anyone with dis-tastful/sarcastic comments will be banned

Dont say you havent been warned.

One post has been removed due to not really caring for the situaltion at hand in Japan.

I also read that Japan had declined Irish Aid, so as well intentioned as this is i don't think there's much we can do.

Afghanistan offered 35,000 dollars in aid oddly enough. Also it's estimated the cost of the whole disaster is still less than Ireland's economic debt.

i'd like to do what i can to help. as for japan declining irish aid, i have not heard anything. i know that these are a very proud people and may feel akward about taking a helping hand, but when needs must, then we should be ready to help out.

"We will definitely repay at least the double and if possilbe more than that (when diificulties are overcome). We thank you sincerely."

This is what I wrote at a Japanese site.
I came here to directly say thanks to you all and read this.
If it is true, I do not understand.
Most (virtually all) Japanese say thanks to Ireland at that site for the help offer.

gatling i suggest that you contact a charity such as the red cross and inform them of your intentions, as some charities may not agree with the nature of the sport (i know utter madness). if you need any help them just pm me and i'll do my best to help.

Cloud (one of the boards.ie founders) recently sold an iPad on adverts.ie in aid of the Japan disaster - I've sent him a pm asking for details of the disaster fund that he's donating to.
