    Yes

    and Yes.

Just follow the procedure. i.e Write them a letter with some evidence. I have used a donedeal ad.

Yes. Sent a simple and clear letter with all details.
Was refunded more than I expected.

Do a search on this forum, or more specifically on the VRT mega-thread. From what I remember, a fair percentage of appeals are successful. The more documentation you provide in support of your appeal the better.

There is good info on the appeal process on www.revenue.ie

    thanks all.

loads of services have appeals processes, but most of them find in favour of the original decision ... so i was wondering if many people actually had success and what kind of evidence counted as evidence.

so it is worth the gamble.

I got €10,000 off my OMSP by appealing, saved me around 3,200 quid.

How do you convince them the price is wrong???.

If you buy a car in the UK and then get a price of the website can you appeal that???

i think we need to prove the irish open market price is lower that their 'calculated' one .... which is hard for a car that is not for sale in ireland?

am i right in saying that? that it is no good showing the uk prices for car you bought?

Revenue don't care what price you paid for the car outside the State. They will have a price of what they think the car is worth here, this is called the Open Market Selling Price. They get there data from the SIMI.

In order to appeal the OMSP you need to prove to them by showing them adverts of similar cars here at cheaper prices.

What's a rough estimate of how long it takes to get the difference back?

    About a month.
