    I booked one in Barcelona.
It said it was city center 4* hotel.
It was 4* alright. But the hotel turned out to be 7 miles from the center and was in an area you couldnt go out in after dark.
Cost us a fortune in taxis.
You could be lucky, but I wouldnt do it again.

I used this before for a hotel in London.
With a little effort, you could find out what hotel it was from the description which is usually the same as the description it normally has.

The one I stayed in was a Holiday Inn, nothing special, but I saved a few euros on the price against booking direct with the hotel

I have never used lastminute, but I have used www.hotwire.com (which is a similar idea) I was able to book a 3 and a half star in Boston for $104 per night, with a bit of research, I knew it was either going to be the Sheraton or Hilton Back Bay. Turns out it was the Sheraton, so I got a great hotel bang in the tourist area of Boston for about 1/3 of the price of the hotels own website.

They are now doing UK and Europe hotels as well on www.hotwire.co.uk Check the website www.betterbidding.com it gives a calender of what people have paid and what hotels they have got. It may give you an idea of what hotel you are getting. It mainly focuses on Hotwire and Priceline, but I think Lastminute use the same model and description, so it might help you with Lastminute also.

We stayed in London recently and had booked Secret Hotels. We saved 35% on the hotel's internet price. Will do it again.

Stayed in the secret hotel in Madrid. Like the one in Barcelona it was miles out of town. Nice hotel and great price though. The hotel did provide a shuttle to the nearest metro.
