Withdrawal ... anyone else get it?

Sold my JCW today, and my Moped yesterday. The Moped I'll do alright without - despite rebuilding most of it and having a bit of sentimentality for it, but the JCW I'll probably loose sleep over, I put a year and a half into building her.

Anyone else get withdrawal after parting with a car you were really attached to?

Sometimes I wish I'd kept my old B5.5 Passat rather than upgrading to the B6 version, even though it's a better car in almost every way. Then I remember the amount of hassle I had with the older version and that it'd have cost me about 2 grand to sort it out for the NCT.

Plus even though my B6 is "getting on" now and rapidly racking up the miles with my current daily commute, I do still love the comfort and convenience of things like Cruise Control and the sheer space and size of it.

I had 2 Mitsubishi Mirage's too and even though they were only 1.3 petrols and not able for all the running in my last job, they never caused me a day's bother either! The coupe version was (at the time) a bit rarer too so that was cool too :)

Just think of all that cash you got for it and the recessionary times we are in :).
I was only attached to one car really, a 214SEi that I had for 5 years. I did Cork to Dublin and back once or twice a week in it for two years. Did from Grange Castle (Clondalkin) to Cork City (River by Jurys Inn) in just over 2 hours in her once with just the Kildare bypass there. Was a normal ole Rover but I was happy with it. Brought my Mum into town one evening to see the Christmas lights the last Christmas before she passed away, a little spin I have never forgotten. I really liked that car.

Believe it or not - it was my black bangernomics W124. :o
Sold it on for what I paid for it ----> 1k, that's what gripes me, should have just parked it up in storage, as it was pretty much mint & rust free.

    O well,

Well done on the sale BTW, gone to a good home ??

No clue, gone to a trader who made a decent bid for it. Surprised the hell out of me TBH, I'd one or two private enquiries, one guy from Wicklow who was supposed to deal, promised a deposit and everything, and bailed.

@RJ - I temporarily have a pile of cash, it'll be used to clear a weight on my shoulders ;)

And you know what the worst of all this is, and I know you all do ... what's the first thing I did? Straight onto Carzone/Donedeal/Adverts for some fantasy shopping. Mental!

I really regret selling my black Mtech 318is...I loved it to bits, but so many niggly things were going wrong on it...it drove me insane towards the end.

Any time I have spare cash, I just go straight onto Donedeal...I'm dangerous.

    Guilty of that one alright!

I know exactly what I want though.. 05-era upwards 2.0 TDI (2.7 if I thought I could afford to tax it!) Audi A6 in metallic gunmetal grey with lots of toys.. oh and tiptronic/auto - I couldn't deal with a manual at this stage!

That said, the new 5 series or a Passat CC would also be in contention if I won big on Cheltenham this week! (not likely with my wussie fiver-each-way bets though! :P)

How did you find a buyer? Stick an ad in Peter Marks? :pac:

Just kidding, I don't think I could ever part with my current car, I considered it a while back to raise cash for my business but I just cut back on everything else instead, I couldn't bare to see anybody else enjoy it

Yep - still second guessing myself about changing my e39. I really wish I wasn't so fickle.

    Just changed my 05 1.4 focus for a 07 1.8 volvo.

Forgot to say goodbye to the focus. She'd have seen the cold hatred in my eyes though, and known I was insincere.

What was the question again? Oh yeah, I don't think I'll be having any regrets or withdrawl :)

What was the JCW you were selling? I didn't know you were getting rid - I would have been very interested. :(:mad:

I miss my vectra SRi. The effortless over take and the 1100km tank range :D

I don't however miss the rock hard suspension and having to avoid every tiny pot hole due to the 18" alloys. Hope the new owner is enjoying it as much as I did

I miss my Cupra R.... every day believe it or not. I drive a diesel now and every time I drive it, I miss my old car. I currently drive the same model car, it looks the same, its nippy and saves me a packet but... diesel.... seriously boring. Damn recession. I miss the rumble from the exhaust when idle, the screams from the engine when on the GO! the power and sheer grunt, the super powerfull brakes, lowered sports suspension... I think I'm going to go off and have a small cry now :(

I get too bloody attached to my cars. I'm a caraholic....I've about 500 diecast and at the moment I've 5 cars registered in my name. Still have my first car..................and my second, third, fourth and fifth :D

I'm getting married in July so NEED to get rid of some so have convinced my father to take the e28 as I really want to keep it. Am going to sell the e30 but sure I've been saying that for two years now and keep finding an excuse to keep it but I mean it this time when I say it'll be gone by June (in case your reading this swmbo :pac:. That just leaves me with my first car and my daily and a second e28 which has to go.....have got someone to take it....since last Oct but I haven't given it to him yet :o

You're taking extreme measures to avoid possible withdrawal :D

So two E28s and an E30. The other two must be BMWs as well?

Unfortunately not! My first car is a 1998 micra that I bought when it was a year and a half old. I've passed my test in it and its too bloody reliable to sell. (I never drove it from Oct '04 to June '07 and it didn't mind at all!)

My fifth car is my daily 1997 Renault Laguna with a smidgin under 200,000 miles on it and I've done (and learnt) too much on it to give it away. And anyways I'm trying to get to at least 300,000 miles on it :)

I really don't want to sell the E30 but I want to keep my first car, especially as its in "as new" condition so I'll just have to face facts and let it go.

You're keeping a Micra over an e30 :pac:
You will regret that me thinks.

There is one machine I regret selling. It was a '88 Citroen AX GT.

It cost me 250 euro (for a pair of them actually, the other was well rotten). It had no carpet or front seats due to a leaky sunroof and the water rotting them. The paint had faded into 8 different shades of white. There was rust on the bonnet, roof, doors. You could put your fingers between the door and the top of the B Pillar (when the door was closed). The electric windows worked after a belt of a fist. The starter solenoid sticked every so often and a bump start fixed it usually. The Valve Stem oil seals were gone and the only part of the braking system not replaced was the brake pedal.

It had typical French Hot Hatch handling (lift off the throttle in a corner and you got lairy lift off oversteer / Brake into a corner and it was understeer central). It could spin the wheels in second in the dry and third when damp. I learned a lot about car control in that car (I was going so hard one night down a farmer's lane that a rock split the floor).

I parked it up after the the crankshaft oil seal started leaking and throwing oil onto the clutch (in Killarney) and I managed to drive it back to Cork. I left it in the corner for 6 months and the clutch stuck. I sold it in a moment of weakness and I was sorry the moment it left on the trailer.....

The only car i ever regretted selling is my beloved 96 Carina, drove that auld girl for three years, made my living in it, raised money for charity in it and spent thousands on it. Sold it Jan of this year because of the 9 year rule was in force and i could no longer use it to taxi, since the rule was overturned i'm trying to find it again.

There was tears on the logbook. :(

Would have loved to have kept my 1974 "Cal look" VW Beetle. Had great fun doing it up (spent ~£8k on it in 1997), driving it to college, etc. Had it in a friend's garage for 18 months, then moved it to another friend's driveway for 4 months. Weather started to take some slight effect when it was out in the elements so I knew I had to sell it.
I had my e30 parked up at the same time but only waited 4 months to sell that even though it was a nice car too. Kind of miss looking at it but it was a 316 with the 1.8L carb engine, dead as a stone. Had it parked in my mum's driveway!
It was like visiting relatives going to check up on the cars!
