Can I trade before registering my business name with CRO. It takes 4 weeks and want to start now, have a website ready so can I put that up with the business name on it (example: 'coolsportswear') even though I haven't registered it. ?

    Hi,
Register your business name online with the CRO http://www.cro.ie. It'll only cost €20 and should be done in about 7 days. I've done quite a few over the past couple of years and they've always been back in a week/10 days.

You've a website ready to go, have you a .com registered? If you're serious about your plans make sure you get the .IE as well. You'll need a business name or limited company registered to reserve the .IE.

Just keep in mind that registering a business name will not stop anyone else registering the same name again. Odd I know, but that's how the CRO do it over here. When you register the name call them a day or two after you send it and say you need the number to reserve the .IE. I've always found them v-helpful.

If you have clients dealing with you through the site, if they pay by cheque payable to the "website name" you're bank will need the CRO info before you can open an account to lodge the cheques into.

Hope this is of some help.

    Best of luck.

Once you do it online, you could probably commence trading immediately.

All you need is for the trading name to be registered to your own name and nothing else will be required.

No new bank account will be required either, just give them a copy of the cert, though best practice would be for you to open a seperate business banking account.
