Excuse my ignorance but is dry dash the same as pebble dash? Just wondering why Council's would be against a pebble dash finish.

    yes it is.

pebble / dry dash would not be considered a traditional finish to a dwelling in a rural area, whereas it would consider it in an urban situation. Which is totally accpetable.

Thanks for that. So is a wet dash finish more like a render. Or is a wet dash what I would consider sand dash must smaller than pebble dash?

    no..

dry (pebble) dash is where the wall is plastered with a sand and cement render and the pebbles are thrown on in a dry manner. These pebbles then to be sharp and angular and sometimes are made up of different colours.

wet dash is where the pebbles are included in the mix before application. In this finish the pebbles tend to be more rounded and uniform. as they are part of the mix, and including a lime additive, the colour is uniform after and drys to a white finish... its often painted or lime washed after.

where sand and cement is made into a render and applied smooth onto the walls, its called a 'nap' render finish.
