Does anyone have any experience of playing there or know any members?

They have full membership at a reasonable price (€450). My dad is looking to join a club and South Meath is within driving distance for him.

    Any info appreciated :)

Tell him to keep his money in his pocket. Its not much of a course.

Golf is all new to me, and I have found this wee course quite good to get started out with, mainly due to being local, costs €10-€15 a round and it's usually empty :)

    ......and it's usually empty :)

Sometimes things happen for a reason! Even the members probably don't like it! :D

No complaints here as I'm just starting out. Helps me with the basics and is worth it for a tenner rather than the extra I'd be paying across the road. Once improvements and consistency is there with the swing then I'll venture out :D

Resurrecting an old thread here so see if anyone has any update on the course or can provide some feedback.

Was looking for a Junior Scratch Cup to play on Sat 23rd Jun and I see South Meath was the only one in Leinster but I never even heard of the course before. Their website shows it as an extremely short 18 hole course but can't find it in Kevin's book Hooked so not sure if it's new or previously a 9 hole course.

The posts above imply that the course isn't up to much so why are they holding a Junior, Intermediate and Minor Scratch instead of just an open singles? Basically is the course worth travelling to from Dublin for the Scratch Cup, is there likely to be a decent turnout and something worth competing for?

Not sure what the turnout/prizes will be like, the course is absolute muck though... Definitely not worth the trip IMO

Thanks, jees must be bad which is why I can't understand why they're holding a scratch cup. Part of the appeal of scratch cups for me is playing stroke play on a decent course from the back markers with tough pin positions. A real test of golf which is why I was fearful of South Meath when I saw the yardard and SSS of the course. Guess I'll look for an open singles instead.

Yeah, to be honest, I wouldn't go near the place for a scratch up. Or any comp for that matter. And definitely not for a green fee when you can such great deals around the same area. Like Knightsbrook for EUR13 on teetimes. SM has had a bit of money put into it in the last few years and a few new greens installed but it's still about a 4/10 course IMO, and that's being fairly kind.

To the OP, I know it's a little bit extra but I would definitely reccommend Rathcore. It's only about 15 mins max away from Trim - through Rathmolyon and into Rathcore village - and is 850 for the year. I think they knock a tonne off if you join through a member. It's a really top notch course, only that cheap because it's in the middle of nowhere.

EDIT: Just seeing now that the OP was March 2011! Ah well, good advice is never wasted.

I started out on South Meath, played a few times and found it really handy. Joined Rathcore though and it's a different world, strongly recommend it
