World Golf Rankings - Some Analysis Ahead of Masters

I was having a look at the WGR this morning and having downloaded it into Excel, came up with the table below.

Using Points Gained as the marker for the rankings in 2011 only, it throws up interesting stats.

As you would expect, Kaymer, Watney and Donald are all up there.

Woods, ranked 5 in world is 44th for this year, while Padraig's 34th is in reality 44th.

Westwood in 39th place this year, as opposed to 2nd in rankings.

Vijay and Alvaro Quiros making big strides up rankings.

    Thoughts?

Shows who has been performing in events this, a rough guide to form ahead of Masters perhaps?

It's a bit early in the season to be using this year's points as an indicator of form - some of those players have only played a few tournaments - McDowell, for example, took a good few weeks off. Some of the top players view this part of the season as warming up for the masters, bedding in swing-changes, etc.

I agree with this comment however perhaps you should average it out against number of tournaments played thereby giving points earned per tournament average.

Notable golfer on the rise for me "Anders Hansen", having a good year so far.
