saw a guy come off his bike at a roundabout last week, I had just yielded to him from my exit, ( I was driving) but as he approached the next, a woman pulled right out in front of him, without looking right, he jammed on and the bike came out from under him, she jammed on just as she realised what she had done, how he didnt, hit or go under the car is beyond me. I stopped just behind him and put my hazards on and checked to see was he OK, which he was, as he was giving this woman a few choice, but very restrained and polite words. He then told me that he had actually been knocked off his bike by a car on the very same roundabout, last year.

Not only against cyclists, but drivers too, have I witnessed this scenario at a roundabout, that people coming onto it, are NOT looking right to , see if they have right of way to enter the roundabout, but are just focused on the road ahead........or the worsed ones of all, the ones that ACTUALLY see you coming, but decide to floor it onto the roundabout in front of you anyway

Looking right and seeing the cyclist is usually the problem. Often people just take a quick glance left for cars - a bike might be too "small" to notice (as they aren't observing correctly). More usually, they don't expect bikes to be going nearly as fast as cars on roundabouts, so think they can make it in front of them. That's why you need regular checks to your right as you approach the roundabout, one check only gives you an indication of position/distance, and no indication of speed of approaching vehicles.

Anyone else meet that ancient old red coach on the Kilternan Enniskerry road yesterday evening? There were a few cyclists on the road that I saw

Scariest incident I've had in a long time, sounded like a tractor coming up behind me so I expected a slow vehicle overtake and a wide berth. Zoomed by me at 60-70 with about 40-50cm clearance, scared the ****e outa me.

Passed it pulled in at the scalp garage and had the same experience again 2 mins later.:( The thing was completely ****ed too, engine sounded like it was missing a cylinder and exhaust muffler and the whole back end was held in place with cargo straps:eek: making a huge racket

I notice that the majority of vehicles passing me dont use indicators, its as if they dont rate cyclists as proper road users. A lot of drivers dont even use the opposite side of the road when overtaking me, sometimes they are closer to me than they are to the line in the middle of the road. Yesterday I had a van skim past me while a hatch back overtook him. Most of my experience is on large country roads, Kilcock to Summerhill etc.

I admit, I was once like this, not using indicators etc, but the "you don't know until you try" opened my eyes up immensely to what you have to face up to when you cycle, more education needs to be enforced during driver instruction as regards cyclists, but as you know, hell will freeze over before this happens. Being held up for a few seconds or maybe a minute, really infuriates a lot of drivers, we need to chill out a bit more and have a bit of patience on our roads................Oh, I mentioned hell freezing over already:rolleyes:

Sorry to ask, but what do you mean by the correct road position?
