Knocking noise when changing gear

    Hi my car is makeing a Knocking noise when changing gear i dont have the car with me and i did not hear the sound myself as my girlfriend drove the car to work today and i just got a call telling me about the noise.

    As far as i know it is when you put your foot on the clutch or drive slow there is a knocking that sounds like it is comeing from the steering wheel.

    What could it be ?

    Could it be the gearbox on its way out it is changeing gears fine and the cluch is working fine so ive being told.
