So I need to update my make up bag, I'm not made of cash so just looking for some good enough make up brands that aren't too expensive.

hi, I would recommend Bourjois, the quality of there products is fantastic (nail varnish foundation eyeshadow etc..)
I would highly recommend there healthy mix foundation, good coverage but feels really light.. I have used many different foundations from expensive to cheap and this is my favourite.. There products aren't that expensive and you can find them in boots or most good chemists... Hope this is some help to you anyway....

ELF can be hit and miss but it's incredibly cheap...

The studio blush is particularly good, and the mineral eyeshadows are good. the bronzers I thought were crap.

Well I suppose it depends on what you're looking for! But I would second the vote for Healthy Mix foundation, got it on Friday and it's lovely to wear. I have the concealer too, and they both smell gorgeous, like peaches. They're a fantastic combination and it's three for two on Bourjois in Boots at present, so for a third product I would recommend either their Volume Glamour mascara in Blackest Black, or their 'Effet Smokey' pencil liners - they are BRILLIANT, best pencil liners I've ever owned.

Don't really rate their blush, too sheer and, if glittery, chunky. Make for nice highlights though! Their chocolate bar bronzer thing is meant to be really good though.

For blush, I have to say my favourite is the 17 range, particularly their new one, First Kiss, such a beautiful pinky colour. Their 'Blush and Glow' ones are divine too. 17 are great for face powder also. Oh, and their eyebrow pencil (though I tend to use matte brown shadow now - Revlon's matte brown is great, as is a whole host of stuff of theirs - particular favourites are their Colorburst lipsticks and their Colorstay foundation and eyeliners)

ELF are a brand I also second. I have limited experience, but I love love love their contouring blush and bronzing powder - bronzer's a bit dark but a light hand does the trick! I also like their Shimmering Facial Whip as a liquid highlight, and it's only E1.70 so very happy. Next on my agenda is their brushes range!

Another brand I really like is Catrice. Nail Varnishes there are amazing for the 2.79 charged, and I have some great lip products from there. They have a huge range of eyeshadows that are well worth checking out!

I tend to prefer more expensive eyeshadows, mainly Urban Decay, and they have an eyeshadow palette that will suit any neutral look, the Naked palette, which is somewhere around 36 euro for 12 full-size shadows. 36 is quite alot, but per shadow, it's pretty decent value I think. I use it all the time and nowhere near pan on any shadow.

Check out Barry M for their Lip Paints (147 and 150 are my recommendations) and Dazzle Dusts. (39 - beeeeautiful!)

I would normally recommend L'Oreal for liquid liners, mascara and lipsticks but I've decided that I can't and won't support a brand which tests on animals. I love their Super Liner in Carbon Gloss, it's the best thing I've tried in the 'inkwell' form but I can't in good conscience buy from them again. :(

Hey, here are a few budget things that I'm loving:

Catrice Concealer - You get five concealers, three skin colours and two colour corrections. The quality of 'em is really great, I use them more than I do my MAC concealer. It's under a fiver.
Catrice Colour Show Lip Gloss - These are about four quid. They claim to last five hours but really you're going to get about two. Which isn't so bad because they don't feel too tacky. The colour really shows up, they aren't sheer at all. No strong smell or taste.
Ebay Eyeshadow Palettes - Search for 88 palette or 120 palette, the results will be from China (usually). These palettes cost about 15 quid each and are very good quality. It's a good way to experiment with new colours too, without spending loads. There are loads of reviews on these online.
Eyelash Curler - I wouldn't be without 'em, they really help keep lashes up and thus keep eyes looking wide.
Barry M Eye Pencils - These are great quality. I think it's nice to have a few brightly coloured pencils for days when you need to run out the door quickly but want to look made up. I just do my regular black flicks but then go over them with a purple, green or blue.
Good luck and have fun shopping! :D
