I'm attending a "lan" this coming April in Newbury England, I want to fly there with Ryanair, i want to bring my pc tower on the plane, along with my mouse and keyboard.

Now after reading the Ryanair site, I'm still not sure if my pc would be able to be taken, aswell how much extra it will cost.

Has anyone done this before? Or works with ryanair and can tell me, i plan to ring and ask tomorrow but im at a loss for now.

So to recall, trying to bring my pc tower on ryanair plane, trying to find out how much it is going to cost me to bring that, i want to put that in my main luggage and have a small bag of cloths and my keyboard/mouse in my carry on. Can anyone work that out for me price wise?

    Thanks a mill

Why should you not be able to bring your tower PC? I have taken mine to New Zealand and back (yes, that was a bit silly but I could not afford a laptop at the time).

You will have to stick it into your checked luggage. A 15kg bag is €15 each way. So the cost for a return flight will be the ticket plus €30 for luggage.

I would strongly recommend you take out the hard drives and put them into your carry-on. Luggage gets thrown around and hard drives really, really do not like that. Also, it would be best to stuff your clothing inside the PC so that everything is padded. Of course, there still is a risk something might bend or break given the rough treatment suitcases receive. If you are concerned about that, consider taking a ferry instead. Rail & sail will like come out cheaper than a flight and will allow you to hold on to the bag with your PC in it for the entire journey.

Would you really want to risk your tower in the hold?

Apart from the conditions in the hold, factor in also that the baggage guys (called throwers in the states) don't place things on belts, on trucks or in the hold. They get thrown around.

If the tower is within their dimension limits for carry on (55cm x 40cm x 20cm), you should do just that and put everything else in a bag in the hold (€15 each way).

You could remove the components from the case and leave the case at home. Pack the components into your hand luggage and when you get to the UK try to beg/borrow/steal a case and just reassemble everything.

I've done this in the past without any problems.

You're going to be one sick puppy when the droids at security decide that your PC constitutes a dangerous weapon, refuse to let it through and dump it in a bin. I wouldn't risk it. If you really, really want to bring your machine over take the boat and train.

Why can't you just put it in a large bag and like mikedragon says, put everything else in the hold?
