Should Ireland just demand the North back?

The drain the North is on the British taxpayer is rediculous... it will cost us a lot for the rightfull owners to have it back... but should we at this stage send troops to the border to secure our sovereignty?

I think yes. A firmly worded letter pushed under the door at 1 am, demanding its return. After that, get onto the gards.

My cat only lands on its feet 9 times out of ten, extensive testing has shown.

Apropos of nothing, anyone want a terrified cat?

Because the might of the Irish Army and the 'Ra would defeat a British army ?

No thanks. We have enough hatred and death in the Republic of Ireland without bringing the North down. If, however, we could cut that part of the country off and send it floating off in the direction of Antartica, problem solved.

Nice thread, you really do start some intelligent and thought provoking ones which add to the long term educational value of boards.ie.

By the way up to about 10 years ago until we voted for a change in the constitution iro the Good Friday Agreement, we did technically have a long standing demand for the return of the North in our constitution.

    No.

In 1999 after a referendum down south we voted to amend articules 2 and 3 of our constitution in relation to our territorial claim to N.I.

So there ya go, we sold out.

Shhhhnake a few brown envelopes into the Queen's handbag when she comes here. If she says that, slap her and take our 6 counties back. TIOCFAIDH ÁR LÁ etc...

I think not. Ireland cannot afford to look after 26 counties. How could it manage an extra 6?

Am I the only one who seems to realise how f***ed we are economically? We should be giving them the West of Ireland!

I don't think you would get any argument from Downing Street with that plan! They would be just as happy to see it float off into the distance

We voted for that as part of the Good Friday agreement... when is the fcuking vote up there anyway to be brought into the Republic?

Too bad we can't absorb Norn Iron. Them public servants up there, all nice and privalaged and plump from years of easy British money...ripe for taxing to service our debts.

Sarcasm doesn't go well with text, but yeah my first comment was highly sarcastic.

    no. absolutely not.

why would we want an economic drain thats run-down and full of problems.
good riddance is what i say. i could see no possible benefit to our country, or theirs.

It must be a full moon again, because this thread has reappeared. Like the recurrent genital sore that it is.

What will we threaten them if they don't give in? Death by Jedward!
