i got a solid state hard drive for my toshiba satelite l500 about a month ago or so, and the difference in speed is unbelievble - as fast as any mac of similar spec

ok it cost me 233 yoyos and it's only 120gb, but i have an external drive and i use the old hard drive as a backup in a cheap ebay enclosure - that's including postage and the price is dropping all the time

now i have a machine that will last me many more years, and i was seriously considering getting a mac and all the expense that incurs with software i need

i saved in the long run - what laptop do you have?

its a dell latitude d810. it works perfect on most webpages but it just wont open certain other ones. the green line at the bottom just wont move more than halfway. this only happens on a very small number of pages

have you tried with a different browser like Chrome or Firefox?
also download and run malwarebytes in case there is something nasty preventing you from opening them
is your anti-virus up to date?

Run a full antivirus scan, check the computer with spybot and malwarebytes.

Uninstall old programs you don't use and run CCleaner and Defraggler.
Take programs off startup list using ccleaner.

Meant to mention the browsers too- Chrome starts up and runs faster than firefox (not loading pages though) just watch the amount of addons you have installed on either browser.

I see you got your answer on the other thread but Cnet have all the programs you'll probably ever want on there site, tested for spyware etc and with reviews.

You may find you have lots of software running automatically when your laptop starts up. This software will keep running in the background taking up system resources.

You can remove these programs from start-up without deleting them from your laptop.

I do this with all my laptops/desktops

    Try this guide:-

    http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/index.html

+1 This is what I would do..

ever tried a mac with a ssd?

eventually it'll start to suffer slow downs, just not as bad as standard hard drives, mac's however wil not

    thanks everyone

    i've run full back up
deleted old back ups (bar last one)
downloaded and ran malwarebytes (deleted 6 files)
    run clcleaner
and tried to defraggle (had to shut off computer after 2 hrs of defraggling)

Sorry if this sounds stupid but how do i know what programs off startup list using ccleaner.??

also i use Internet explorer... is Chrome an alternative?

    thanks again!!

Finish the defrag, put up the list of startup programs here and someone will advise or google them to see what they are.

Firefox or chrome are fine, don't use Internet Explorer
