    does Ireland require type approved cats?

    I am trying to buy a replacement cat on ebay and the sellers tells me he cant sell a non-type approved cat to ireland?

    wtf??

    This has been asked here before. There is no cat equivalent of the 'E' mark on tyres that are required for the NCT, they measure the exhaust gases and that's how you are judged, not on what marks, labels etc. are stamped on the cat.

    Download the 'NCT Manual' at this link, read the section on exhaust gases and emissions..

    Bought a CAT of this crowd, cut the old one out, welded the new one in, passed no problems.
    No idea if it was approved or anything, but for less than a hundred quid you can't argue.:D

    There is a crowd in the north called GT exhausts. Got a cat for a 1.6 passat, it was less than half the price of a Bosal unit. No issues over fitting or quality.

    OP he is refering to regulation 103
    All cats sold in eu must be r103 approved otherwise you would be liable and could be fined quite heavly. However no one is going to enforce this legislation over here.
