Do you need to build it as opposed to just installing a .deb?

    http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/i386/ndiswrapper-utils-1.9/download

The deb responds to ndiswrapper1.9 not if I call the ndiswrapper command.

Got a bit further, got the driver installed but if I call iwconfig my wlan info isnt there.

    The guide is here

The module is getting loaded but iwconfig just can't see it.
    See the following lsmod.

I've tried every driver available for this now.
Is it possible it's the device ? The lights don't seem to turn on at any stage but it is being recognised by lspci command.

Quite possible. I had a Netgear card a while back and it would light up once in a blue moon but never got a signal despite months of messing about. I eventually tried it on a Windows machine and discovered it was defective.

This is the only laptop that has this slot. And has no windows. Just googled and Virtualbox doesn't support Pcmia from teh guest OS so I'd have to isntall windows to check if it fully works. Either that or cut my losses adn buy another card.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Atheros cards in general work flawlessly under Linux just to note.
