New SMP client needed?

Has there been a new SMP client release? Stanford is still saying that 6.23 is current but I don't even recognise any of the WUs I was getting - nor will they run. My client has bailed out completely at this point and I haven't a clue on how to fix things

BTW I'm running v6.30 on WinXP... the client is failing every WU since the last HFM update  And it no longer sees both CPU cores and is only running (and crashing) unicore WUs on FahCore78

What files do I need to save or salvage from my existing F@H setup? I'm assuming I'm going to have to go Scorched Earth on this and obliterate everything Distributed on my system then start again from scratch :(

There seems to be a new core version 2.27.

It should automatically download for you, not sure why it wouldn't.

Nope, I'm still using 1.9... up until today, when it decided to use 0.78 (which isn't even SMP!) instead :(

No responses... oh well, sorted it all the old-fashioned way anyway, with lots of scorched earth deletion and anger  Seems to be working fine with SMP 6.34 on HFM 0.6.2

    My bad; sorry. :o

Yeah, SMP client v6.34 is needed for the new a5 core WUs, and all -bigadv WUs have been moved onto the new core.

Weird how it kicked me off SMP though...

Really? What was the log saying?

Because there was a bunch of new SMP WUs coming up (Project numbers in the 7000s)... was it maybe one of them?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,381 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

Yup... looking through the logs it was the P7000 WUs appearance that suddenly caused the system instability on my rig, and once I'd restarted I was getting single-core WUs and every WU (even normal ones) would fail to finish :eek: I had to reinstall and make new shortcuts in the end, and I haven't seen a P7000 since... dreading when I do! :o

Oops... me and my big mouth, just got one!

    Has it crashed yet? :p

Nope :p P7000s are good for PPD!! Shame I'm back on a P6702 right now :P

Ah, FUDGE!!!! Its happening again! :( This time a shiny new P6950 set it off. And I've noticed a pattern - for some mad reason there seems to be a possible conflict between F@H and Skype voice comms as it all comes apart when I use Skype heavily and use it for voice as well as IM!:eek:

I use Skype, and my clients don't crash...

I only use IM though, so maybe that is the reason...

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,381 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

Haven't used it since and my current P7141 seems fine...

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,381 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

The new install seems fine until it gets a P69xx. Every time it does the F@H client pukes its guts up 25-40% of the way through. P70xx WUs are working fine though

Its definitely Skype. Repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of both and I'm still getting crashing. I'm guessing they're fighting over clashing Registry entries because TrayIt identifies F@H as the Skype Extras Manager

Anyone? If I can't fix this I'll have to stop folding :(

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,381 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

Not that anyone's listening to my monologue here, bit I've pulled TrayIt from Startup and the Registry, as it seems to be mixing up F@H and Skype the most. Then all I can do is wait for F@H to crash yet again...

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,381 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

But it does appear that there is some sort of Registry clash between TrayIt and the latest version of Skype (specifically, its Extras Manager). Removing TrayIt's registry entries has stopped the issues with Skype and F@H but has caused severe slowdown while using vBulletin forums...

The new, v7 client has been released; it's got a built in "hide" feature if you wanna use it:
    http://www.overclock.net/overclock-net-folding-home-team/977412-windows-7-complete-client-v7-guide.html

Also has support for new AMD GPU WUs (check 4th post).

Crashing again!:mad::( I might try the new client, but if this continues I'm gonna have to pack it in :(

EDIT - Hang on, that's Win7 only. Looks like I'm out of luck (and folding) for now :(

Nah, the client works on all versions of Windows; I only name the guide Windows 7 because that's the OS I used.

...No dice. New client still crapping itself, Skype or the PC when they're both running. Going to have to shut F@H down every time I want to Skype friends now :(

I dunno mate.. Skype works fine with me. :(
