Highly unlikely to be genuine @ that price. They look like an airsoft supplier rather than RS so it will likely all be clone gear. Check out their feedback, most of the neutral/negative is in relation to the quality of the gear.

Sorry but what do you mean by RS, thought they would be knock offs alright

RS = Real Steel, as in the real world of soldiering

Hay Dude, Glasses look like the real thing but may infact be a very good knockoff as they are coming from Hong Kong. To be perfectly honest I wouldnt buy them, Maybe look into buying a set from an Irish Airsoft Store that actually can take the force of 1J in the eye approx €45 for Daisy Glasses, mesh eyewear I find are pretty good approx €15

if a bb were to split, the mesh would take most of the kinetic energy out of the initial inertia and even better is that d mesh has a lower impact surface than polycarbonate. On the contrary, NEVER use biodegradable bbs with mesh as Im sure you know

Yea its the bios I'd be worried about, you would never know what other people are using so I not going to take the risk, I like having 2 good eyes

haha same here dude, if you are playing at a site, always inquire before games start, if there is anyone using bios, as far as I know most sites use plastic bbs due to the fact that alot of players are now using mesh goggles and mesh face grills

why are bios bad for mesh masks?

Bad for your eyes, they hit the mesh and break apart, not very nice

Speculative. I have heard absolutely NO first hand accounts of this happening, just pure hearsay.

Because of mesh's inherent properties (i.e. it has holes), there is GREATER risk of particulates getting into your eyes, but the risk is more about things like gravel etc, as opposed to BBs shattering on impact. Now as you pointed out, the odds of a BB shattering are slim, and the odds of the BB, when shattered, entering your eye, are even slimmer. But risk is risk, and making an educated decision is far superior to just going with what looks good.

By all means, people should be aware of the pros and cons of their eye protection, but just because something is possible, doesn't make it probable.

I can confirm the Myth as true - I have had a BB hit my mesh glasses and shatter the fragment into my eye - no damage done but a bit uncomfortable!

Hasn't stopped me wearing mesh - but I do wear polycarbonate too now.

Erm, not to put a damper on the "myth", but I've seen plastic BBs split apart too. It's not just a bio BB thing.

As for Spike's assertion that most sites use plastic BBs ... most sites don't specify so it is down to the individual player. Some sites and events do however.

a few years ago we tested bio's on a plastic mesh mask at hrta ,considerable amount of bbs broke/splintered and penetrated the mesh, bio's in design are fragile compared to your standard bbs , if i remember correctly lemmings had some that started to degrade in a bottle on a sunny day before he even got them into a mag, havent heard of any serious damage caused by splintering bio's on mesh , one for the Airsoft Doctor me thinks,

wear glasses, we take a risk
wear mesh, you take a risk
do not wear any low face protection, you take a risk

you just need to be aware of the risk of each type of protection, yes bio bbs can break but by breaking there also using a large amount of there energy on the mesh itself, i've actually had more near missis with glasses and b from the side than bits going thought mess by a long long way, on the balance of risk i would always say the mesh is safer as you can go with full seal have no fogging

I remember a test being done, I think its on youtube, cant be sure. Where plastic bbs, (not bio) were shot at a mesh mask. A bag behind collected what came through, and a worrying ammount of shards were there after only a short burst, at varying distances.
Plastic or bio, there is as Inari said, holes... anything hitting at a weird angle can fragment, and ive seen many plastic bbs shattering too, infact, they are physically more likely to do it, being harder, less able to absorb impact.

I personally will never use mesh, I just feel unsafe... Thats my own choice though, Im sure they are safe, regardless of BB, but im paranoid.

As for sites not allowing bios, Ive seen more sites that ban non bio (wildlife preserve sites where biodegradable footprint is required) never heard of one not permitting bio bbs.

Was that with mesh or stamped steel? I'd image mesh would be worse as it has an uneven surface.

Mesh, however steel is going to have sharp edges, and still has holes... I've seen bbs fragment on flat clean walls, The potential still stands in my eyes.
