So popped down to Bridgwater to get my bike (decided on the Sherpa). Have to say for an unassuming little town and a particularly unassuming little street the SJS place is huge.

Anyway I went with the intention of upgrading to XT groupset etc but the chap I was talking to said that given the length of trip I'm doing either set will wear out at roughly the same time, the deore parts will be fine and I'm better off spending the money elsewhere.

I still have plenty of time to upgrade so was he talking sense or should I splash the cash on XT? (I can happily afford it but whether it's money wisely spent is what I'd like your opinion on)

You come on here looking for advise on whether to spend money or not....hmmm let's see

Get the XT and don't forget the Brooks saddle while you're at it.

    You know you want to!!

Now if you really want to know if Deore will suffice - I'm sure it would but it wouldn't have the same bling factor when people are checking out your bike:mad:

I'll get a black marker and put an XT on everything :)

(got the Brooks saddle, look forward to it breaking me....)

Slightly off topic but which Brooks saddle did you go for? Currently thinking of getting one. Thanks

B17 Black which is standard. Never tried one before so can't comment on it.
