When you call someone using using SkypeOut, FringOut etc. off your mobile, what number appears on the recipients phone? Is there a product that lets you keep your mobile number using VOIP but not move permanently off your home network e.g. Vodafone.

It will depend on how you setup your SkypeOut service. Skype may provide you with a number, you can setup CallerID on your account, depending on your provider.

If you have your broadband with Vodafone (regardless if it's Vodafone Mobile or Vodafone At Home) the number allocated to your network which your VoiP device is connected to should not effect your callerID. once your device/computer is connected to an internet connection that is not blocking your provider, it should work.

Again, the number that appears on the receivers phone, is setup by your VoiP (usually managed online), if you use standard topup Skype, it comes up as Unknown. Many VoiP providers will provide you with a number, which can usually be used for both incoming and outgoing calls.

    Hope this helps.

I don't think you can do that with skype, but you can if your phone can run a sip client and you use one of the betamax groups voip providers (see http://progx.ch/)

With those providers if you setup their app on your PC you can register your regular mobile and landline as valid caller id numbers.

On your sip client on phone there will be settings for userid and sip server
The trick to making the caller id selected on PC to also work elsewhere is to enter <phone_number_in_international_format>@sip.<voip_provider_name>.com

    e.g.

    sip_server: 00353871234567@sip.intervoip.com
    user_id: <your_intervoip_userid>

Intervoip is doing calls to Irish Mobiles for 6c per min at the moment
(they say 5c, but add VAT + handling charge and it's just over 6c)

Rynga gives 120 days free calls to landlines

feedback on betamax voip companies on the web is variable and the prices do change, so be warned. also watch out some have a connection charge per call

if you're using blueface enter <blueface_user_id>@sip.blueface.ie
if you have a caller id selected from blueface's web interface, then that number will be shown as the caller id. (i.e. your home number either geographic or an 076 number)

Also you mention Vodafone as a home network. If your Vodafone SIM has been activated later that April 2010, then it's terms and conditions will prohibit VoIP useage. Older SIMs don't have that restriction AFAIK.

You will know if Vodafone is 'blocking' VoIP as the call will rapidly dereoriate into garbled tones after being connected ok for the first 10 seconds or so.

In the latest version of skype this has been updated - you can now set the number you want to appear as your caller ID.
