What happens to holidays if you switch jobs?

Hello, I'm not thinking of switching jobs anytime soon but I'm just curious as to what might happen to accumulated holidays if you leave a job?

I've carried holidays over from a previous year as my company allows this. What would be my entitlements in regards to these holidays if I handed in my notice? Is there any law covering this or would it be entirely up to the company?

Usually they'll pay you for them. Entirely up to company... But if they allow carrying then they will have a policy for leavers.

If your company's policy still entitles you to these carried over days at the date you leave then you'll very likely be paid for them. Annual leave accumulated since the start of this year will be guaranteed to be paid.

Okay, so holidays for the current year are guaranteed but a company could refuse to give you anything for holidays carried across from a previous year if they were feeling mean?

I am nearly certain I recently read something about holidays being carried over from one year to the next being entirely at the employers discretion.

This would make me think it is also at their discretion whether or not they pay you.
