i have to say I have been seriously impressed with the outlet in Banbridge.
My wife is from Monaghan so every time we travel up to her hometown we take a trip across the border.
The prices in Banbridge are about half of everyday prices in the south and the staff are only delighted to see you .

Seriously folks if you have a wedding comeing up or are just passing by ,do yourself a favour and drop in.I'm from Waterford and I always dovetail in a couple of new tyres and the tracking at wow prices!!!

I'm not seeing a Consumer Issue here. In addition, I also closed your previous thread on a similar topic at your request.

Is it the Outlets on the main Dublin/Belfast road? If so, I'm surprised at the comments you make about them as when I was up a few weeks ago it had a huge number of empty units and a large number of local retailers selling off product that was about 3 years out of season. http://www.the-outlet.co.uk/shops.php - Even some of those listed have closed down such as Edinburgh woollen mills.

I think we spent 30 minutes there and left. The only decent places in it were Timberland with a very poor selection of sizes & Marks & Spencer who didn't have any brilliant discount. We didn't notice any major price difference between the Nike outlet there and the Nike Outlet in Kildare or the Golfino store.

Mountain Warehouse, we thought was very expensive, more so than 53degrees north in Carrickmines.

Generally we found it was mainly a selection of lower end product with not a huge choice and very little "designer" stuff. It was also like a ghostown and we were there on a friday afternoon.

I agree with the above poster, nothing much there by way of bargins anymore. Worth calling into (if you're passing by) for a poke around would'nt make a point of delibrately going there.

Was there about a month ago dropped in on the way to Belfast and while we didn't buy anything, we did bump into Jim Corr (things must be tight even for him)

I agree with Sandin....The Outlet is full of empty units, no real bargains there. The Gap is about the only one that has decent discounts. I cannot honestly see it alsting another 2 years without adding new shops to the place. It's certainly not worth a trip. I only drop in if I am going to Belfast.

The Outlet (and other similar places like Junction One in Antrim) to me are just like massive brand specific TK Maxx stores. You might find one or two bargains, but the majority of the stock is out of season obscurely sized SHlTE

a few years ago the outlet was full of bargains/choice
its a complete waste of time now, very little in it

Agree - when it opened first, stopping off in Banbridge was a part of the occasional trip to Belfast. Last time I went it was very very poor - much prefer Kildare Village.

Puma shop closed today in banbridge. Loads of empty shops. Sad sight indeed as I'm sure puma will not be the last.

While the majority of the above comments are correct the Regatta shop does have genuine bargains most times I've been there (light hill walking trousers 6.25stg, cycling shorts 5 stg are a few examples).

The Thorntons shop varies but it is consistently the cheapest of the thorntons units (more so than the other outlet one in Junction 1).

WTF are the landlords/owners doing about this?if this keeps up they may as well bulldoze the place? Is there any effort being made to bring in new tenants?

Nothing that can be done. People have to have the spending power first and only when that has returned both north and south is it worth it to open a store. Rent is only one factor. - I was offered a store free for 2 years in the Dublin area and I refused it as I would still have to pay staff, still ahve to put about 100k of stock into it, still apy esb, heat, rates.

But unless I could be guaranteed at least 500k of sales a year, it would still lose money.

The outlet in banbridge got planning permission for a retail park beside the outlet, which will have onee of the largest Tesco stores in NI.

The hope is that Tesco and some other big names in the retail park will help to establish the outlet itself as well again.

Just on the news it's been announced that Ulster Bank have taken control of the Banbridge Outlet. It's to continue trading as normal for now.
If half empty can be considered normal.
