A lot of places sell them for about €40 in VG condition.

There were quite a few minted and subsequently recalled to be melted down. They have about €15 worth of silver in them.

There were quite a few minted and subsequently recalled to be melted down.

Although it was a commemorative coin, there was a half-hearted attempt to put them into general circulation and they were used to pay the army at one stage but they never caught on because people preferred the ten shilling note so it wasn't until the 50p coin was issued in 1970 a year before decimalisation that the ten bob note was finally retired.

We had a few of the Pearse coins at home, one day a few American cousins came to visit and gave us Kennedy Half Dollars which we knew were worth feck all but my mother felt under pressure to reciprocate so in return she handed over Patrick Pearse 10 shilling coins!
