My work colleague is sick, has been sick for a few weeks. He collapsed at one stage because he couldn’t breath. My boss asked me to take him the doc that day and he was given stuff to take. That was about two weeks ago. Today he possibly collapsed again (he was found appearing from behind a bush after been coughing again). I work very close to him (within 3 feet) for 8 hours a day and no offence to him but I don’t want to catch anything from him. My other colleagues express the same concern. Does anyone know if we have any rights in this matter? Our employer should let him off sick leave or something? I really don’t know what to do about this, our line manager is awful in these kind of things. Ive told the guy in question numerous times to goto the doc again but he wont listen

Does the poor guy know what is wrong with him? It may not be contagious but it sound like the guy should be on sick leave. The GP would have given him a cert if needed and suggest treatment or referral to a specialist etc so you are probably worrying about nothing.

Did the doctor not give a diagnosis when you took him? Because it would depend on what is wrong with him. If its asthma, for instance, you need have no worries. But I do sympathise with you because I ended up very sick just after Christmas after catching pneumonia off my boyfriend!
