    Hi Guys,
dunno if anyone can help me out...
I just moved to an apartment temporarily, just for a few months until it sells/find alternative arrangement.
I contacted NTL and from their terms and condition i have to sign for a years subscription in the case that i move out before the lease is up i'll have to either pay €200/the remainder of my contract...
Now to me that's a lot; can anyone advise me of any boxes to buy and what channels i can get... Looking for basic channels.. Some sports and news will be nice - not fussy
    J

Freeview is the way to go. One of payment and you're set. E4 all the bbc's film4, CBS etc, Best value for money around

Just looking for one; prices vary - anyone know any good deals?
So i've got a normal tv(way before HD) and the ntl box(no basic channels)
If i buy one of these boxes, all i need to do is connect it and it'll work?

I'm quite useless with things like this but desperate times... 2 weeks and no tv is killing me :(

You mean freesat? Although judging by your location you might be able to pick up freeview! Also, the OP will have to put up a satellite dish for freesat.

Aldi and lidl usually have them once or twice a year so keep an eye out. It was a local handy man who put ours up. Its a matter of installing a satellite and plugging the box into the tv. Really simple.

The Lidl / Aldi / Ross non-Freesat "generic" boxes are not worth it. Also the plastic parts on some cheap dishes bread easily and and the Lidl cable is inadequate.

Minimum now to get is a "Freesat HD" box.

So i've got an old tv, that isn't HD/HD ready - There's an NTL box in the apartment but no basic channels after auto tuning...

From the replies here; seems like freesat/freeview?

I live in Dublin - close to the CC

OP, it seems like you have an old cable connection. You can only connect NTL equipment to this.Your other option it to errect a satellite which you prob can't as you won't be there long.I'd go with rabbits ears and pick up the 4 Irish analogue stations to get you your tele fix until you move.
