hi i started driving at 18 for 2 years under my mothers policy and then my fathers policy for a year. Then I had my own policy for a year and a half when my car was stolen I claimed and was told that my ncb was gone. so I had to go back under my fathers name for the past year. so now i have enough money for my car and need to know what do i tell the insurance company when they ask about driving exp.???

    any help...

Having a car stolen is not like getting a conviction for a motoring offence like drunk driving which you are expected to declare so unless there is a question asking you to outline claims made by you in the past xxx years I wouldn't bother mentioning it.

AFAIk every insurance company ask about it while quoting.
Besides - he has no NCB now.

Yes, but having no NCB doesn't mean you don't have to answer the questions fully and accurately.

    That's obvious.
So OP will have to tell them he's no NCB on his own name, he has 1 year driving experience named on someone else's policy, and had a claim last year.

So the years prior to the insurance in my own name won't count is it??

OP you should go back to the company you were insured with a get them to give you a letter stating the period of time you were insured with them and any claims you had. Theft claims are not normally regarded as claims for NCB purposes

We don't want to encourage you to tell porkies on your insurance application form. To save us second guessing, can you tell us exactly what questions are you being asked regarding previous claims?

Sorry my main question is not regarding the claim. It's that of which driving experenece can I use. Am I limited to 1 year driving exp.

I found in the past that this very much depends on the insurance company you are getting the quote from. An awful lot of people seem to make broad unfounded assumptions on things like this that they reckon such is applicable across the board because of their own circumstances but such is not the case. I know that when I went out in my own name some companies equated 5 years claims free as a named driver to one year ncb in my own name, with more it was 7 and the one I went with in the end it was 3 so it very much depends on the company you are getting the quote from. Two years later when I was shopping around most but not all disregarded my previous named driving experience for the purpose of providing me with a quote seen as I had being driving under my own name for 2 years at that stage. Thats not to say the guys that took the named driving experience into account were necessairly any cheaper either though.
