Career change to Java Development

I am thinking of changing my career from electronic engineering to Java development. I have been offered an entry level java development role but the salary is a lot less than my current salary because I don't have any development experience. I have always really enjoyed programming and I would really like to accept the job but it will be a struggle financially. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? Do you think Java development it a good area to get into for future career progression?

It wont be going anywhere anytime soon. (personal opinions of it aside)

You will have to weigh up how bad you want to have a job you like with how much of a struggle it will be. Obviously if you are likely to become homeless its not worth it :) but going hungry could be worth it if you will be happier in the long run.

Just to add, even though it may be a struggle financially to begin with, the salary of a Java Developer scales quite nicely with a bit of experience under your belt.

Thanks for the replies. I have a lot of thinking to do about whether it will be worth it in the long run
