I've acquired a new permission which is swarming with rabbits. I like to lamp them but don't want to lamp it too often so that the rabbits become lamp shy. So the question is how often is too much?

if you have a .22 with subs and a modifier they wont become aslamp shy because they aren't associating the lamp with the loud bang that usually follows.

mod or no mod they still cop on ive done it , try maybe one aweek say one week ni one week day , but the normal case with rabbits if ya hunt the area excessively over a year or two most will move away from the danger area (hunted area)

not if you do it properly use the wind only lamp 30-40 yards in front of yourself and shoot what you see pick a night with a bit of a breeze
if you wave the lamp around all over the place and let them wind you and shoot at silly distances then you will turn them lamp shy
after all a dead rabbit isn;t lamp shy and they don't read books or watch tv that tells them what your doing :)

I always found that dead rabbits do not become lamp shy so if you dont miss you wont have a problem. I am only speaking from experience in using lurchers where we never ran a dog at a rabbit that was too close to cover or safety. Only chasing rabbits we had a good chance of catching. Any other rabbits would be startled by our presence more than anything so would not consider the lamp as the danger thus not becoming lamp shy.
    Only my experience though.
