Start with 'Z', I think it's easily their best album.

Yeah definitely 'Z' followed by 'It still moves'.

I haven't listened to either of the first two albums. Their fourth one Z is amazing, it's one of my favourite albums ever. It still moves is also good and definitely worth getting. Evil Urges however, with the exception of one or two decent songs, I absolutely hate. Avoid.

Ahh Lay Low. If I could marry a song it would be this.

    Oh noes!

It was a toss up between Z and Evil Urges but because I couldnt wait I went ahead and bought Evil without waiting for a recommendation...

So now I'm downloading Z as well and I'll make sure to listen to it first.

I only have Z and it's one of my favourite albums. Lay Low is my favourite song from it, the last four minutes are amazing. Would love to hear it live.

Although 'Z' is a better album overall, my favourite song of theirs is on 'It Still Moves', it's called 'One Big Holiday'.

MMJ are probably my favourite band. Personally my album preference would be 'At Dawn' followed by 'Z'. Evil Urges' is a bit hit & miss but with some good songs in there. Also check out Monsters Of Folk spin off band.

I love'em. They're like an old school 70's rock band, but they're not being retro or nostalgic; its genuine, they're just playing music like it used to be. When the second half of the song was an extended jam.

^ 'Off The Record' is a great song like that. New album 'Circuital' is out next month. Can't wait. Sad, I know :o

Hmmm. Evil Urges is certainly not their best.

there's three or four songs that sound like the worst of the Eagles. hard to listen to but I did.

There's another three or four that are just throw away.

Yes. Dondante too, just amazing. And Lay Low. I love it.

The more I'm enjoying Z the less I'm liking Evil Urges which makes me worry about the new album. We'll see. I hope its more Genesis then Eagles.

don't know why but took me a real while to get in to them once I did I could'nt understand why

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,900 ✭✭✭InTheTrees

...and there's a new single out "holding on to black metal".

I'm not a big fan of the last album so i'm a little worried about where they're going. They seem to be losing their slightly gritty edge and getting a little soft and easy.

Saw 'One Big Holiday' On the Americana Hour on VH1 or 2 about four years back. Some really uplifting music.
First album I got was At Dawn'
Love 'The Way That he sings,Bermuda Highway,Xmas Curtain and Strangulation.

Got their third then 'It Still moves' . this is when they upped their game.
Mahgeeta,Golden, Dancefloors, Easy Morning Rebel, Run Thru ( check out the drum fill that Ash knicked) and the best of all 'One big Holiday'.

Z then is different they kind of drifted after from long folk filled AMericana.
It beat for you, Gideon, anytime are true anthems.

I got their first album then before they broke really anywhere.
Its a slow acoustic album but very nicely laid out. 'I think I'm going to hell' is my favourite and kind of decribes their sound early on.

Evil urges coincided with them changing members of their group.
Pretty solid offering bar the awful 'Highly Suspicious'

Live album is a great energy record

Really love this band but I never had the pleasure of seeing them live.

The album will be released on the 27th, new releases generally come out on a friday in Ireland, Tuesday in The US.

Jim James is in another band with Conor Oberst & M.ward called Monsters of folk, they're excellent too.

have you ever heard Conor's cover of 'Devil Town'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 Monkiki

No, but I'll check it out. Love him big style!

Luckily managed to see them at Oxegen a few years back too

    New album out today. Circuital.

I went to itunes and all their albums are $7.99 (E5.550) so I bought it despite reservations about their last one.

    Its downloading now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭Creature

InTheTrees any places that I've looked for it, including iTunes, say it's out on the 3rd or 6th of June. Is it definitely the new one you got? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,900 ✭✭✭InTheTrees

I'm in seattle so it must be different dates. dumb really considering its a download.

On their website its available today for $7.99 to download (you can use a credit card, I'm sure they wont care if you're not in usa):

I've only listened once so its going to take more time. First song Victory dance is great right off though. I thought their last album was getting a little 80's eagles but this seems like its a bit harder. Its different. Its Better than Evil which is good news.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,900 ✭✭✭InTheTrees

    Victory Dance.

I'll be blasting it out of the car as I drive home through downtown Seattle this evening...

Outta My System from the new album is top notch. The album is what the critics say is a return to form. Not for me though, as I don't think they lost form, just think Evil Urges was a change in direction, but I liked it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭Creature

Been listening to the new album on youtube. It sounds great! I'm really liking Slow Slow Tune and The Day Is Coming. Slow Slow Tune in particular is brilliant. It really reminds me of the songs from It Still Moves, very chilled and relaxing with sweeping epic guitars toward the end.

Also InTheTrees, jealous of you being in Seattle, the birthplace of a lot of my favourite bands!

I love Z, kinda like At Dawn and dislike everything else. The new album is horrible. Sorry.

Z is great though. The guitar solo on Lay Low is brain melting.
