Some Advice

    Hi all

Find myself in a bit of a situation, signed up for Connemara some time ago and started a 16 week training program, with just the attitude of completing it, as it was to be my first marathon, had done plenty of half’s and ten mile and hill running, but had never run beyond a half. Training was going well, until I picked up a chest infection, which took 3 to 4 weeks to get over, anyway got back out and built up to a LSR of 16mile, before getting the flu, which knocked another 2-3 weeks out.

I am over it now and started to build back up, got 14mile in on Saturday. My original plan was to have my last 20 mile LSR next Saturday, then taper for 2 weeks until the start. But that’s gone out the window.

Would anyone have any recommendations for weeks running up? Have 3 weeks to it now, would it be advisable to get two more LSR’s in and rest for the week, or do something completely different.

Would still like to give it a go, since I’m all paid up with it and accommodation, just to try complete it, but I don’t want to wreck myself, as I plan to do the race series and work toward Dublin.

    Regards,

I think you've lost any chance of recording a good time at Connemara.
If it were me I'd do another LSR this weekend, no more than about 16 miles, taper down over the next two weeks (trying to squeeze in more LSRs could do more harm than good), and run Connemara at LSR pace.

Agree with Ray regarding your training options but you are really up against it to complete the race in good nick, I hope the mileage you've gained over the years stands to you.

    Good Luck.

would agree with the above reply's....but if u feel u mite need to cover longer than 15/16 miles in training to boost ur confidence for race day ,u could break up 20 over a day say an easy 14 in the am,rest and then an easier 6 after lunch.and then a two week taper with plenty of rest, ...and remember u only have 1 first marathon so enjoy it ,,
