iPod Nano problem

I've searched for similar posts but can't find one.

Have an iPod Nano that won't turn on at all. iTunes is reading it fine. When I disconnect it in iTunes I can browse the files in the iPod while it's still plugged into the computer but as soon as it's plugged out it just goes black.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Here's what I've tried:

    1. Click wheel and center button reset - No reaction
    2. Update of iPod software through iTunes - No Reaction

The battery might be kaput. The reset that you perform by holding the menu and centre buttons is preceded by flipping the hold button to on and then off.
