VW Golf Doors won't unlock

I have a 2000 VW Golf GTI. The issue that I have is that the battery is completely dead and now I can't unlock any of the doors using the keys manually and the remote won't do it either. Is there a way to over ride the system so I can unlock the car?

I don't know if this will work on the VW, but I had a similar problem with a BMW a while back, and managed to sort it by opening the boot with the key, and connecting a charged battery to a light in the boot.

guess you could cut a little hole in the grill, give access to the bonnet mechanism, allowing you to open it and charge it up.
Dont suppose boot can be opened? Is the locks ALL flushed?

Spray a load of wd40 in the lock, if It's not lubricated the key just spins in the lock

Wedge out the top of the door with a thin wooden lever and a very soft cloth. Get a wire inside and pull the door knob.

    Biko:
Does a gti not have deadlocks, are they activated whenever the car is remote locked or do you have to double click to activate?

Don't know mate. It may work or it might not. Also if the car has the below pins instead of knobs it won't work then either (nothing to hook)

Pulling the interior door handle unlocks it, but not if deadlock is on

Is the lock on the tailgate purely mechanical ? You could try opening that if there were no electronics involved. When I open the boot with the key while it feels like it's a standard lock.
