i was looking at a few secondhand cars on donedeal and it seems to be a place to offload your shoddy rust bucket with no nct or tax.
its full of cars that need a minor little part to pass the nct or cars where the nct has just expired.
it also seems to have a lot of housing estate fly by night car dealers advertising . im just wondering have many people picked up anything decent from donedeal that hasnt broken down within a few days of buying it , or are there any other websites with any decent secondhand cars for sale?
    cheers.

There's loads of good cars for sale on donedeal and loads of bad ones read the guide to buying at the top of this page.

If you're looking for a cheap car it's the place to look as the add is only €3. Folks are slow to pay carzone.ie whatever it is they charge for an add. I've sold 5 cars on donedeal on the last 3 years, one of them was fecked but it was advertised to make that quite clear.

There are loads of genuine sellers on it too that are just trying to avoid the dealer trade in premium. Lots of part time wheeler dealers though. Buyer beware and DoneDeal.ie is fine.

Sold my last car within 2 days of going up on donedeal. My sisters car sold within 8 hours of going up. I would not even look twice at the ad if the car didn't have an NCT.

Bought a Civic January 2010. Had 4 months NCT on it.
Failed the test on front brake imbalance.
    Was a simple fix.
    Car is still flying.

I would buy another car off there, BUT
Buyer beware and check everything fully. Leave nothing to chance

No NCT would be worrying, but I wouldn't be stressing about no tax TBH.

I bought a car from the donedeal website recently. I was only interested in private deals. Many were pretending to be private deals.

It's an old cliche, but as Mike brewer says when you ring up ask about " you have a car for sale" don't mention the model. 90 per cent had more than one car for sale, and had to ask which car was I ringing about, although on the surface it was a private sale.

I always have a good look at the car, but a good look at the owner and his house/garage can tell you an awfull lot, to me more than the car.
I like to offer a good bit below price offer first, a lot of sellers get very aggresive at this, walk away.
If the guy smiles, and keeps the deal open, then you have met a good person, who will probably have a good car.
You need a sort of person radar.

I agree but if he smiles I reckon he'd be well used to selling cars and haggling :) Which is no bad thing but most folks selling their own private car would only do so once every few years and so wouldn't be too at ease with the process.

If you search donedeal for "logbook", it is quite telling. DD is full of chancers selling sh*te. There are numerous examples of cars with the wrong engine size on the logbook and the sellers using this as a selling point. "BMW 525 with 1.8 on the logbook, cheap tax and insurance!"

donedeal is only a reflection of the market out there, other than to say maybe there are more chancers on it because the ads are cheaper, but buyer beware is true of any car on any site

    Remember the buyandsell?

The buyandsell was always full of scrap back in the day, and donedeal is like a online version of it in todays world.

while I mention it, does anyone ever buy the buyandsell anymore to look for a car?

I'd agree that dodgy car adverts on donedeal are not a reflection of the site itself. Donedeal is the most popular site for selling cars and probably other stuff too. You get a very large audience and it only costs you €3. Unfortunately with this popularity comes the riff raff of bogus sellers too. It's part and parcel of buying and selling stuff. Actually, I'm suprised that there are not more scam adverts like you get on carzone given donedeal's popularity.

Nope, I get the local evening paper the odd time for a look at the free ads, there'd be some interesting cars in there at times, lots of folk are still not into the net and that.

Bought 3/4 last cars in donedeal.ie

It's like any website, dealer, garage.

You need to expect that. And if car is too cheap to be true, then well... You are an idiot to get cought. ( not op, just in general )

There are good deals, there are bad deals like anywhere. Learn to look.

The only thing I hate about donedeal.ie is freaking easy search moppets... If I am looking for skyline, why I would be interested in your fecking 1.4 civic?!?!?!

Donedeal.ie's search algorithm is indeed pretty shocking. Very annoying when people add "e36 e30 civic skyline integra" etc to the bottom of their ad, which the search actually picks up.

For 3euro it's an expensive(yet crap) thing to do if it's a joke. However, for only 350e if your interested in any of these "easy search: civic integra prelude s2000 crx gt4 mr2 twincam ae86 corolla g6r g6 gti gt starlet glanza soarer chaser is200 lexus s15 s14 180sx skyline r33 r34 r32 pulsar celica a4 a3 golf passat bora toledo amg brabus evo 4 5 6 7 8 mivec gttdi tdi"

    I strongly recommend this:

I buy vans from donedeal, I tend to go for stuff that needs repairs, fix them and sell them on, its hit and miss, some vans are exactly as the seller describes and some are just scrap metal on wheels.
