Can anyone recommend a good location for a first foreign family holiday in Europe. 3 kids (8, 5, 3). Looking for some warm preferably near the sea. Somewhere low-key and easy (travel, food etc). We were thinking maybe Italy.

Try looking into smaller towns and villages along the Amalfi coast in the south of Italy. The coastal region is very senic but can get very busy (not to mention hot) during peak season.

Hard to beat Lanzarote, Canary Islands, easy to get to and low prices. As it is in the Atlantic, there is always a cooling sea breeze even in mid summer. I would reccommend Costa Teguise, lots of children's playgrounds and a waterworld.
