Passport Forms

Quick one for any Gardaí or reserves, following on from this thread which brought back the memory: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056204316

I was told by my Dad not so long ago that AGS won't sign passport forms anywhere except your local station. The guy in the above thread was having trouble getting one signed also. Yet when I toddled along to Store Street I was catered for no bother (in fact the Guard was in great form, kept me chatting for five minutes :P )

Anyway to cut to the chase, is there some regulation that passport forms and pix can only be signed in the applicant's local station or can they/should they be signed anywhere in the jurisdiction once satisfactory proof of ID is presented?

Your first passport has to be signed in your local station. Once you've had a passport already you can get it signed in any station.

Sdonn asked if there was any regulation that form and pics HAD to be done at local station.

Not to my knowledge I know it was always said before but I think it was more of a culture of old Ireland.

As long as I am satisfied with your identity and photos I'll sign it for you if youre from Donegal.

An Post charge €8.50 for the Passport Express service - guaranteed turnaround in 10 working days, afaik. Well worth it imo - when you factor in the extra time factor in visiting the Passport Office, and the fact that you are not guaranteed a turnaround time.
