A good friend of mine has been looking out for a cheap car for me (car dealer friend) Anyway he has found one for me. I have been to see it it's exaclty what I want

I rang the insurance friday and the insurance is a little more than i thought it was gonna be (not by much though) I was thinking fo getting the car and keeping it in the garden until I get the insurance sorted (it will take me a few weeks until i get the money together though)

Would this be ok legally and will the car be ok not being used much for a few weeks?

As long as somebody who is fully insured to drive the car drives it to the garden for you then it should be ok.

The car should be ok for a couple of weeks on its own, you might want to start it once a week though and let it run for around 20 minutes just to keep the battery charged.
