    Okay,

I realise given a number of my posts and my behaviour at a couple of the AH beers that I'm only leaving myself open to (merited) personal abuse here, but when was the last time you unclenched your fist, pinched the bridge of your nose and realised that the person wasn't worth it?

There was a troll here the other day spewing utter bollokks about how all public sector workers are a drain on our society. It was dealt with clinically and summarily by Biggins, "It's too early in the morning to be listening to this idioitic crap. I'm off.":pac:

Then yesterday, some arsehloe posted in the Tsunami thread,"Anyone for sushi?" (Dealt with equally as clinically by the mods), so I was just wondering AHers, anyone got any real-life stories about having to deal with utter fools?

Sorry about this thread folks, it was just that I was trying to follow the Tsunami thread and get as much information as possible from people who might know a thing or two about nuclear reactors, meteorology, people who might know people on the ground, good newsfeeds, people just wishing to post their best wishes or say that they were praying for the people in Japan. It's not the thread for petty little people (of which I'm one:pac:) to clutter up with God/Atheist arguments. People are looking for information or solace. If you want to have a childish little squabble take it to PM or the relevant forum. It's too important.

Sorry, rant over, I want to go back to the Tsunami thread as I was out watching the rugby and visiting a friend in hospital. I'm a selfish man, doesn't give me the right to clutter up a thread that other people have a vital interest in.

This reminds me of a song I heard many years ago! I know everyone has heard it and fully understands it's meaning and relevance so I'll leave it at that.

You don't get as many in real life as you do here on boards or on other areas of the vast interweb. Many users don't reveal their real names and because there is no real societal impact on their behaviour they can release their inner demon. I think I'm one of these people. In real life I'm quite placid, respectable and well behaved but inside I'm really a sadistically psychopath who'd turn around and say stuff like, "Hey, the whales caused the Japanese tsunami as an act of revenge, now the whales will be having sushi full of Jap-meat" or "Manx2: In before Ryanair".

I don't tend to carry a keyboard around with me tbh, it would remove the element of surprise. So what ever you do, don't try that yourself in the real world.

Not just on boards.ie - CNN comments and YouTube comments are full of bile.
Angry little kids saying things they would never repeat at home or school.

Theres a movie called 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' ... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0261392/
Very funny ending where they track down all the kids that called them names on the internet and give them a kicking. Brilliant ! :pac:

There's no point in arguing with fools, not on the internet, not in the real world. The worst of them won't know they're idiots and will drag you down to their level. Others do it to get a reaction, don't give it to them. They're like child bullies, they get bored and move on when they get ignored.

I've no enemies but then I'm not exactly memorable and nobody would notice me to pick an online row

The ignore function is there for you OP, I used it last month for the first time on one poster.
    Does the job

A few years back, I set up two accounts on an internet forum and, just for the craic, I used to reply to myself when I made a post. Well, one time I started arguing with myself for fun, just to see how people would react, but after a while it started to get serious and I got really mad at myself, the row went on for 2 days and I even stopped talking to myself.
Anyway, in the end we both got banned.

I don't ignore posters, by principle, even a stopped clock and all that.

After a while you get who is stirring, who just are soap boxing, who just passionately believe in a certain topic and you are never going to see eye to eye.

There's a few posters who just aren't worth it and tbh, in the end, they usually are found out.

Anyway, OP avoid PS pay threads, reasonable poster give up on that one and all you are left with are ideologues on both sides. Nobody learns anything.

    To quote Churchill:
A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.
