Banner Advertisement Rates

What would be the going rate for a banner ad on a website that has 20,000 unique visitors weekly that would be solely geared towards a large cash intensive industry.

100,000 target market subscription members will receive a weekly tweet where there could be room for additional advertising revenue.

There would be no more than two other banner ads on any page.

What other factors go into pricing up advertising rates?

I seen a national property website pricing advertising from €4 for 1000 clicks.

When they say CPC does that mean that when 1000 people click on it you are charged 4 quid or is it just when it appears on the page??

And can you cap your spend?

    Cheers

Depends on a lot of factors. For example the standard going rate for 1,000 impressions is between €12 and €15. However, you're going to have to be out selling them at that rate (which can be difficult).

Other banner networks can guarantee advertisers, but you could get as little as €1 (or less) cpm

Banner ads are bought/sold on a CPM basis (cost per thousand page impressions)

For premium websites (RTE etc.) I'd pay in the region of €6-8 CPM. Personally I'd never pay more than €10 CPM in any market and certainly never in Ireland and even then the ROI really needs to make sense.

Display advertising is cheap due to massive inventory available, network buys, Google AdWords display, Re-marketing & direct deals.

When I'm choosing display campaigns, I'm primarily looking at volume so would be focused on network buys with a low CPM (<€1). I may add a premium targeted buy but it wouldn't factor more than 10% spend initially.

    Don't do paid tweets. Ughh!

If you have an engaged and active subscriber list, there would definitely be value through email for it.

    Hope that helps :)

Hi All, I hope I'm not to late to jump in on this thread :)

I'm a total newb with this stuff but are you saying that I could advertise my own company on rte dot ie for €6-8 cpm? I realise that could happen pretty quick but if it could be capped it sounds like a pretty good deal.

I run a local interest website which generates about 6000 pageviews a month. I realise this is small potatoes but would big companies be willing to pay for a banner on a site like that? And if so how would somebody approach them?

Like I said I'm new to all this so if my questions seem a little naive then i guess thats just me ;)

    Thanks all

Don't forget that the rate might be low on some sites but they'll compensate by getting you to make a relatively high minimum spend

NO!!!! be very careful.... CPM is impressions and not clicks.. your ad would show 1000 times but you may not get any traffic because those users may not go to your site because you are only paying to have your ad displayed.

We don't know what your doing so its hard to advise you. Local would normally need local advertising.

You have done the right thing by asking. No worries.

so for 1500 you'd get 150k ad clicks.

    Thanks for the advice :)
Our site is a local site for promoting tourism and local business so a lot of its traffic comes from local and abroad. I was just wondering about how I'd go about approaching for instance Guinness or Bord Failte and if I could expect to be laughed out of it by only having 6,000 pageviews a month?

If it getting better thats good..... if you check your stats on Google Analytics, how long are users spending on your site?
This will be an "Avg Time on Site" value.

How much for a front page banner that recieves 30000 visits per month

Banner value is a strange one. because you could have 30000 visits a month BUT there may only be 3000 unique visitors. Or you could have 30000 unique visitors but the "Avg Time on Site" may only be 30sec.

The value is in your customers (banner advertisers) seeing how advertising on your site will give the brand awareness to their brand/service.

SO.... if you have a lot of traffic they may see it as a lot of display of their brand.
OR..... if you have a good "Avg Time on Site" they may see that there is more chance users will read the banner.
There are also other factors you need to take into account, like target market, your percent of the market, size and position of banners.

You could ask these questions all day, best bet is to get a set rate for a certain banner, ie 0.0004 per impression.

Some sites do CPC as well as CPM..
Best way to find out is to apply to one of the big names like google adsense etc. ..

    good luck
