How to become a pro

    First off,excuse the long anecdote.
Out playing today, driving like an army lieutenant all round, left, right, left not in any specific order.
"What kind of shaft is on that yoke?" asks my loudmouthed playing partner after another errant drive, who I've never played with before.
    "Stiff" says I.
"Throw that fcukin thing away,t'is a regular shaft you need"he goes on,cue an "exchange" on the way down the fairway.
I've spent about €300 on classes the last year and specifically bought my G15 stiff-flex on the pro's advice, yet this knob maintains it's the wrong shaft for me.
Thing is,one thing he did say has stuck...
"Sure you know any 'aul fool can buy one of those licences, all you need is a few bob to be a club pro.Sure they're only the same as me and yourself".

How does a club pro become a club pro is my question?

becoming a golf pro is like any other profession, you need to get qualified, however you need to have a handicap of 4 or better.

No offence or disrespect meant, but ya need to get rid or not listen to your loudmouthed playing partner, he wont help your golf wit comments like that. Played wit someone similiar myself for years and my golf went downhill from paying to much attention to his "wise" words. Since i stopped playing wit him my golf has come on no end. Someone putting negative ideas into your head does not help.

I think this bit answers your question (well maybe not your specific question re becoming a pro but you get the point :-))
    Pay him no heed.

Its a long hard road to become a golf pro, first you must have a handicap of 4 or better. Then become a registered assistant at a Golf club where at the same time you complete a three year Degree in Professional Golf Studies from the University of Birmingham.

Long story short depends on your swing speed, fast swing use stiff shaft, slowish swing use a regular shaft :)

with the large amount of guys turning pro theses days wouldnt surprise me if the pga pushed it back to scratch....as really a 4 handicapper becoming pro??!!!!know a few who have off 4 and lets just say they shoot more 80s than they break it!!!!
but if you have youth on your side and the drive....go do it!!!

firstly lads who turn pro when they are hacking it around off 4 really piss me off. like if you cant get to scratch why would you do it? secondly in order to turn pro they have to be 15 over or less for 36holes in dundalk. what a joke!
also i cant understand why lads are still going down this career path anyway
, do they not realise there wont be any work out there when they finish!

In any walk of life, teaching is about observation, understanding and communication, and very little to do with execution. A teaching pro should be a teacher first.

you get good teachers and bad teachers. I've been to "pro's" that instructed me to do things that were just plain wrong. Take everything they say with a pinch of salt. Double check what they tell you and make sure you get at least a few lessons with some **** hot ex tour player.

edit* as for your mate. What's he off? Unless it's ~2, don't listen to him. Everyone on the course is an expert don't you know ;)

    Most pros are teaching professionals.
There are relatively few Pro's in the world who make any money from actually playing the game.
The most important thing is to have the capacity to understand, analyse and have the communication and teaching skills to improve their pupils. i.e. us.
