    Hi

I'm looking to build up a collection of (legal) movies on an external hard drive to use with a samsung tv that I am getting soon.

My question is, does samsung require hard drives to be formatted in any way so that they can be hooked up via usb and play movies?

I ask because I know sony products need it to be in 'Fat32' format otherwise it wont work.very frustrating.

Samsung TVs work with both FAT32 and NTFS. So go with NTFS!

thanks just checked this on the tv and it works fine. no need to format anything and movie looks great.

shame about sony being so anal about it.

I have a Samsung 40 LED with USB. I used to have a 500GB drive (FAT32) and it worked very well and was fast to access movies. I recently upgraded to a 1TB drive (NTFS), because I ran out of space and copied over all my media to this. Now when I plug it into the TV it's much slower in viewing the folders and playing the movies. I've checked the TV manual and it supports both FAT32 and NTFS.

Could it be the size of the drive that's making it slower? Or should I format it to FAT32?
