When did an Irish sports team ever get away with something?

After watching the rugby earlier today, I've been thinking about when an Irish sports team has ever gotten away with something that should have been called a foul, but wasn't and we ended up winning because of it.

I can name plenty of times when we've been hard done by (Thierry H, the rugby today, etc), but I'm struggling to remember times when Irish teams have gotten away with things in sport.

Please, I DO NOT want to discuss the rugby today (Rugby forum that way ---> ), or open old world cup wounds, so please stay OT here guys and gals.

We got a dodgy peno in a qualifier for the world cup (might have been euros...) to help us come back from 1-0 down to win 2-1. Forget the team we were playing.

    Edit:

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

when we were allowed to field a guy called Tony Cascarino on 88 seperate occasions, in which he scored 19 goals, and not only was he not irish, he was in no way qualified to even play for ireland!

Aside from the Cascarino thing, has there been times Irish teams / sports people have gotten away with blatant fouls (or indeed blatant cheating) and we've won because of it???

Didn't England have a try disallowed the year Ireland won the Grand slam?

Yes, possibly lots! But it's human nature to block that stuff out and think "Yeah, we won because you're awesome!!" and when it's the other way around it's "We're awesome, it's all the ref's fault"

Acyually Cascarino was 100% qualified to play for Ireland, he just said he wasn't to sell his book at the time and the story has stuck.

I remember Brian O'Driscoll being given a try by the TMO a few years ago that should never have been awarded against France and we went on to win the game narrowly, apart from that I can't think of much else - we always get screwed. :(

Ultra dodgy Robbie Keane penalty v Georgia as mentioned previously.
Also angleshooting a refusal to play in Georgia in that same group got us a huge advantage over everyone else who had to travel there.

Michelle Smith probably got away with blatant cheating in Atlanta Olympics.

TDF winner Stephen Roche has been accused of doping by fellow cyclists.

    2003
    Ireland 15
    France 12

We beat France in Lansdowne road with a well dodgy try decision in our favour.

    2006

Also think we had a dodgy Tommy Bowe try allowed to beat Italy at Lansdowne.

Well you can't ask when did an Irish team get away with anything and then just discount Rugby.

Anyway, Munster got away with **** loads in the 08 final by just sealing off every time we got the ball.

Also Ireland against France the year we won the grand slam were consistent offside and were only penalised 3 times.

Those are just 2 off thee top of my head.

There was also that time against SA when ROG got a try from a quick tap despite the ref instructing the captain of SA to talk to his players.
