FPS ok or not?

HI i just recently added a VFC PDW to my collection and its chronoing at an average of 279 fps as its limited to the italian 1J restriction. I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading to get that extra 40 fps out of it or should i just leave it be?

Pros for upgrading: more fps (but how much more distance?)

Cons: possibility of f**king up on disassembly/reassembly

Any recomendations/ experiences on this kind of thing would be good.

Recommendation? Sure - if you're not sure about what you're doing get someone who knows to upgrade it for you!!

Range is about more than fps alone dude - hop-up type/rubber, barrel type (twist barrel, tightbore) do a lot more than the fps. Both in tandem (i.e. fps and internal upgrades) help to get the most out of your aeg.

That said, 40 fps extra on a gun which already has accuracy and range upgrades is more than noticeable. 40 fps on a stock gun is also a large enough drop for it to be worth your while getting it done.

Before you do anything, take off the top of the receiver and give the nozzle a good squirt of silicone up into the piston head. It could be that the o-ring is a bit dry and not giving a great seal.

Fire it on auto to clean out the silicone (and any gunk), stick it back together and try it.

The reason I say it is - I saw the one and only Masada (Richie from Eirsoft) get a VFC416 in one day with the same low'ish FPS(280). It just happened that my own VFC416 (couple of year old gun was the exact same).
I was only half paying attention to what he was doing but within 5 minutes he had the gun firing at 320 fps (without opening the gearbox or mess about).

He told me what to do with my own - worth a try he explained. I did as he instructed and it worked 100% - back up to 320fps. (Been like that since the last Senny event and still perfect).

It's gonna take 5 mins and might save alot of hassle and unecessary work. Best of luck.

+1 on Defenderdude's advice - actually watched PK do the same thing with my 416 last weekend!

That said, I'm pretty sure that VFC send Japanese rated aegs to Italy - it's too much hassle to put in a 1j spring, so it seems that sometimes they simply send the lower fps rated Japan models (according to one of the Irish retailers who carries VFC stock). Try Defenderdude's solution first - if it works then you're laughing - if not then it's time for a spring change to a 1j spring.

Japanese rated is the same... 1j. Its no difference.

Try that idea suggested, sounds grand, if not, a spring swap, though as said, FPS doesnt = range, it = how fast it gets where its going. The range is due to hop and barrel.

    couple of things to check

is the fps taken with hop on or off and what weight bbs?
    is the barrel clean?
