What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?

Haven't seen much buzz on the forum about these guys. Took me a while to warm to them, still haven't quite won me over. Saw them first on Jools Holland, nice, simple melodies underpinned by easily digestible musical backing.

Really liking that tune 'Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra), might pick up the album this week, seems to be attracting acclaim thus far.

Another nothing throw away band imo. Nothing new original or inspiring about them.

Annoying is the best compliment i can give them.

i like em i must say. quite throwaway indeed - the hype around them in the UK is rediculous, like they've invented a genre or something. typical NME 'biggest new band of the year' kinda stuff but i guess that's not their fault.

but the songs are catchy, direct and well...good. yer man did an interview with phantom there a few wks back, seemed sound and level headed.

picked the album up last friday. like it but it's not likely to be something I listen to in a years time

However one of the lads in the band is brilliant in his former solo career. Jay Jay Pistolet. Only got 2 EPs released and a collection of his songs from his 'retirement' but they're really really good. Worth investigating more than The Vaccines.

Although I like what I've heard, I fear they're "the next Glasvegas"

Why should I like them ahead of the numerous bands they sound like?

I'm echoing previous posts, but why is this being hyped, there's new nothing new here.

"derp-derp-derp-derp-anthemic song" sums that single up for me, it's like these NME bands write songs because it's an obligation.

    but each to his own

dear god no. I think they have a million more things going for them. I don't get glasvegas whatsoever. the songs are mindumbingly dull. the band/record company seemed to have decided they are a stadium rock band but unfortunately they don't seem to have a tune in their heads.

The Vaccines have hooks aplenty, not "original or new" as lordgoat said but there's rarely a lot of that going round anyway.

vast majority of bands nowadays (especially rock bands) can be easily compared to contemporaries and predecessors but I think it's still OK to like them!

blame the press for the hype not the band - the hype is rediculous. sure the NME did the same when the View came out few years back - rediculously formulaic pub rock. catchy but not exactly the saviour of music.

the thing that makes them more likeable and not 'hateable' for me personally is the lack of pretentiousness and melodrama. they're not pretending they're doing anything new or particularly exciting. IE Glasvegas...

They are a typical NME band. They're ok, but utterly undeserving of the hype they're getting. They'll be long, long forgotten in a year.

The album is excellent, enjoyable listen from start to finish. Personally I don't listen to an album thinking "will I listen to it in a year's time", life is too short for that, I just listen.

I don't understand this reluctance to admit to liking a band just because they've been hyped. So what if they have been on the cover of NME 100 times before their album is released, does that automatically mean I need to shrug my shoulders and say "they're overhyped"?

I honestly think some people go out of their way not to like a band when they catch wind of any sort of hype, especially if it comes from the NME.

I gotta agree with a lot of the above comments, I heard a lot of buzz about this band and then when I heard them on mtv late last night I thought they were muck! As already said above they are a typical NME band pushed by the media, simple songs with a backing track. I don't know how many "The <something>" kind of bands there are, a new one every year.

NME buzz band aside I like them. They are not original sounding but then it's a very small minority who are these days - just look at the Strokes blatantly ripping off Thin Lizzy on the new album (Gratisfaction) and even when they came out and the press and fans were drooling over them people highlighted their obvious influences but didn't let it detract from them, the album and live shows.

I got a hold of Vaccines album at the weekend and I really like it. Catchy and short. What's not to like?

Bought it today, really enjoying it so far :) Completely agree with Fago123, the amount of people that say to me a certain band won't be around in a year's time - who cares! Not every band has to have en epic, timeless sound. I'm always drawn to new music whatever it is.

The band may not last but there is nothing wrong with the good songs they make lasting or being listened to over in your ipod years after. Who cares about passing trends.

Was listening back over one of my favorite catchy indie rock albums of recent years by a band who only released that one album and never amounted to anything. The Vaccines may or may not be around in the long run but regardless of that I reckon I'll still be sticking this album on on a sunny day or when the mood suits down the line.

I agree completely. Picked up the album over the week, quite impressed, short, punchy rock tunes with simple melodies. Straight, to the point, with flashes of sonic awareness.

Going to see them on Friday as well, should be epic! :D

They cancelled their Galway gig tonight.

    ^^ wonder why?
Wasn't at all impressed by the Dublin gig.
Sound seemed to be all over the place. Very hard to hear lead guitar and lead singer.

The lead singer is having an operation on his throat in April and has apparently been told by the doctor not to play smaller venues due to the strain on his voice caused by the PA setup.

A tweet wouldn't have gone astray. I saw them cancel other gigs via twitter last week but insisted Irish dates were still happening. I go all the way to Galway to find out it was cancelled. Fupping raging, waste of time.

Class tune alright! About model Amanda Norgaard... I wonder what she makes of it!
All in White is a great tune too.
Sure it's not 'ground breaking' music, but they're damn good sounds loud :)
