anything is possible Confab and if thats your attitude to life and the search for bargains i dont fancy your chances.

    2005 focus steel went for 2800. bargain:D

2001 saab 9-3 2.0 Ep new model 900 euro (bought this myself)

    2001 focus lx 1.6 saloon 1050 euro.

    2004 laguna 1.9 Diesel DCI 2500 euro.

2003 mondeo TDI 2400 euro (had a poxy body kit)

Confab it would seem that you have not got a clue what your talking about , so before you answer posts ,do a bit of research , the above were cars i saw at auction this AM .

look like an idiot hmmmm not me pal .

Am on the phone so can't search for an example but you'll get a lot of diesel 75 for 2500, more value than the vag stuff.

In fairness lads we have a lad who knows his beans who is looking for a car for €2500 with some criteria attached, he may well need this car in a hurry and has other stuff to be doing instead of focussing fully on looking for the car. €2500 is not a tiny budget, no one is trying to make him look an idiot, if I had to find a car and had a son in law in the trade I'd be asking him to find me one too :)

I remember when the gearbox went in the Rover on the Friday night I didn't particularly enjoy looking for a car considering it needed to be ready for road straight away. Usually I'd enjoy poking around looking for one at my own pace and maybe buy something needing a few evenings attention.

    LOL.....

and no, I'd not be buying a car from your "stock" in your "yard" - as you don't seem to know your arse from yer.......

Months back he mentioned that he flicks a car or two on every month so I'd have no reason to doubt he's gone into the game on a larger scale.

If we traced the comments in here back to the post that kicked it all off one question (which I'm not going to ask) would explain exactly where Almanu is coming from with his reply to Confab.

Now I think both lads are splendid dudes and they make great contribution to the motors section.

Have to agree with this, I don't post much, only if I'm having car trouble myself but I enjoy reading the threads! There seems to be an awful lot of arguing and trying to put other posters down recently! All the OP want to know was if anyone heard of any diesels going cheap! It's fcuking pathetic some of the sh1te replies!!

Good lad going for it at the minute.

In response to your original question you could at auction pick up an older generation Mondeo diesel or as James suggests a 75 both of which would be very good choices.

Failing that a PSA HDI of some description would be my choice, a 406 HDI expecially.

I'd steer clean of the 2004 Laguna DCI you suggested as the turbos and electrics can cause major difficulty

    Top pick IMHO

Is there any more guidelines as to what the father in law who is out to get one over a bargain from you :D

The 406 HDI is a good car and does hold up very well to use, apart from some silly electrical niggles. You can go for a bog basic Avensis or Carisma but he will probably hate you for it :D

All things said and considered, it's good to read of the "start up" you speak of. Good luck to you OP, may the wind be at your back so as to speak......blah blah blah.

I don't know what the hell is up with everyone on this thread. I've deleted 18 posts that contained nothing but rubbish. The OP asked a very easy question you can either help or you can't. If you have nothing worth while to post, don't post.
