I may be selling my laptop, and i'm wondering how i reset it so that, if I sell it, they start it like a new laptop with win 7?

I will backup all my data/bookmarks but then what?

    Any advice appreciated.

    What make is it?

Usually at start-up you can press F8 to bring up a menu system and there after you get options to do what you want to do - restore it to factory settings.set-up.

    See here: http://www.technospot.net/blogs/how-to-do-a-system-restore-in-windows-vista-and-windows-7/

Your option would be to chose "Windows Complete PC Restore"

You should have the F8 function available to you then. :)

Use either the above option or go into repair where a similar WHOLE restore option should be available too.

bottom line you can't clean windows
no one knows all the places where personal data is stored especially if you have added applications since you got it

best solution is to dban and do a clean install, but time consuming, even if you have all the disks

do a factory restore and wipe empty space using
    sdelete or eraser

The 5920G came with Windows Vista as standard. So if you have 7 installed, the recovery partition may have been nuked as part of the install.

The recovery sequence on this particular machine is Alt+F10 when the Acer BIOS logo appears, but "D2D Recovery" must be enabled in the BIOS. Again, if the recovery partition has been wiped then this won't work.
