There was probably about 5 posts like this in last months.
You can use the search engine.
No point to write all these again.

BTW - there seems to be plenty of people buying primeras recently.

    I bought mine last June.
Done 25k kms so far, and only what I did was new oil+filter and new front discs and breakpads.

There are a couple of common issues that they can suffer from, but no more then any other car out there.

i had a 02 2.2Dci and it was great, very nippy, reliable for the 2 years i had it (nothing more than regular servicing) handled pretty well and gave great mileage with the 6 speed gearbox.

only negatives (and my wifes, not mine:)) were that the driving position is very low, like a go kart and you can't see any of the bonnet from the drivers seat, so you don't know where the nose is at all.

my only real complaint was very poor (dim) headlights, even with the fancy high output bulbs in them and an awkward shaped boot opening in the saloon, making it hard to put big stuff in the boot, but other than that it was great and i'm sorry i had to sell it. :(

oh, and i just had the basic stereo and (according to the nissan dealer who did my servicing) it was next to impossible to upgrade it to the factory fitted satnav jobbie once it's left the factory as it's wired into everything and you need to change the locks and half the electronics to upgrade the stereo, which is prohibitively expensive.

How was the Factory stereo quality though?

The stereo itself is quite good, speakers are good and the controls are brilliant as it uses a big screen (colour on all but basic models) the drawback is that you can't add navigation or swap the headunit. It also has the climate control and reversingintegrated too.

Saw a good few that needed gearboxes. A worthy choice but the 1.6 is a bit dead, 1.8 much better.

I think stereo and speakers are of the average quality like in 90% of all modern cars.
For average person it will do. For an audiophile it definitely won't.

the drawback is that you can't add navigation or swap the headunit.

Some of primeras had navigation installed by factory.
You can obviously plug in different car-stereo, and plug it in straight to the speakers.
But you won't be able to use it thourgh primera control panel.

I read on some forums that there were guys who managed to plug in DVD player to built-in primera screen. Anyway - that's more job for a hobbyst.

I'm sure you could fit a tumble dryer to the car, but actually fitting something so it doesn't look rubbish is the problem. I've seen the t spec with the Nav and phone and its neat.
Realistically you can't upgrade the unit as there is so much involved.

In primera you've got a space for DVD reader for navigation maps.
In version where there was no navigation, you can easily use this space for any other car-stereo system.
Very little work involved - just plug it in to the power, and plug in the speakers.

    yep, piece of cake (almost).

    http://www.mp3car.com/show-off-your-project/133320-nissan-sr20ve-primera-2001-car-pc-phase-one-complete.html

but not if you want to upgrade the original stereo and replace the screen etc, unfortunately as i found out with mine. :(

if you don't mind the extra stereo then its doable with some work as you can see above.

    Hi Anthea,

Please don't drag up old threads. I see you posted in this thread:

Best leave that one as your go to. Give people a chance to respond, it hasn't been there that long.
