Has car insurance gone down?

Mate just got his renewal in the post. He was always paying about the same as me, about 800 but his renewal quote would always be about 1100 then bargaining them down to 800 or so. Now after a 3 to 4000 euro claim after the frost, he has got his renewal quote at €850. I think he has protected no claims but we had only been talking about it last week how he would have no bargaining power this year and would get the 1100 quote and be stuck with it as insurers are still saying the claim is open against him.

    So have prices reduced?

Got a few quotes online yesterday, 5 to 6 hundred, 123.ie were a good bit less than 400, 3rd party f and t.

    myself(late 20's) and the misses(early 20's) were paying 300ish foe fully comp on a 1.1 colt.

I have 8-9 months before renewal and just changed to a bmw 520i (2.2) and my policy shot up by a whole 85 euro! Nice

I switched to them recently, cheaper than anyone else once breakdown and bonus protection were included. Otherwise Tesco were cheapest.

OP I seem to be finding that with the online brokers, the cheapest underwriter seems to be changing every year. There's probably one aggressively chasing market share each year. In my case, last year it was Chartis, this year it's RSA. I doubt you can change underwriter with a protected bonus claim, but maybe they were poxed and their existing underwriter was chasing market share.

123.ie are under written by RSA now, 200 less than best quote for me.

Found them to be by far the cheapest aswell. Got 3rd party f and t on a 1.3 corolla with protected no claims, 3 yrs no claims bounus, no points for 398.
I am 26, driving 3 years. Next cheapest for same cover was axa at close to 550

edit: looked at it there, its 389 not 398!

Wasn't much in it for me, if I had been with 123, I'd probably have stayed with them but there was an extra few quid (€50ish) to be saved over insure.ie. All proposals were underwritten by RSA.
