Check out the O2 TV app in the Market.
It's free to download but you do need to pay to watch the channels....

Just downloaded this, do you get charged for data usage ?
Also when you buy say a 24hr one off subscription (which I did), does it get charged to your phone bill ? or android market ?

Could you tell us the charges please to save us installing the app just to find out?

I can see from the description on the market that there are two packages: Sky and an O2 pack but the O2 website doesn't say how much these cost.

I found the charges here: http://help.o2online.ie/kb/ps?type=search&search=1&searchtype=2&c=12&cid=21&cpc=&searchstring=3579

I also read the T&C, it charges to your phone bill/credit. I dont think you get charged for data usage as long as your settings are correct.

I wish it would tell me when I connect if my settings are correct or not, as I am not sure if they are or not.

The quality is not great, but I think the one off fee of €1 for 24 hours is not bad, if you really want to watch a match or something.

I was signed up to the Sky Pack already and watching it from the browser so I didn't purchase via the app - it look like it is just the same though - I can see the channels in the O2 Lifestyle pack but can't watch them and that the O2 Pack will cost me €5 per month. The Sky pack costs me €6 per month but there is a 24 hour pass as the OP has said. Data charges are included so you don't get screwed when watching a match.

So I can watch Sky Sports on my HTC Desire for 6 euros a month and the data doesn't come out of my monthly allowance? Sounds like a good deal.

Might come in useful for the US Masters next month, the BBC have lost it to Sky.

APN needs to be set to "internet"

Do I need to set up a new APN and point it at the existing 'O2.ie Internet' APN or do I set an option within the O2 TV app to point it at the 'O2.ie Internet' APN?

In 'Wireless & networks' I can see 'Mobile Networks' which has the subtitle 'Set options for roaming, networks, APN' so I select this and then I see a menu which includes 'Access Point Names', I select this and I can see a single entry which is 'O2.ie Internet' and it's selected i.e. there is a green button beside it.

Apologies but I'm new to Android so still finding my way around, phone is HTC Desire.

"O2.ie Internet" is the profile name - this profile would be set to use an APN and I suspect that this one does use the "internet" APN. You should be able to select "O2.ie Internet" and see what the APN is set to (e.g. via the Advanced Options menus or something like that).

Thanks for that, I probably should have said that it's a relatively recent O2 phone so the setting were good already. I have the TV working and the data isn't coming off my monthly allowance.

Does anyone know if it renews automatically or do you have to purchase each month afresh? Wouldn't be surprised if they had something in the Ts & Cs which says you have to write them a letter in triplicate to a post box in the Cayman Islands to cancel it!

    Edit:

Found the answer here, you have to cancel the monthly pass it or it renews automatically.

If you want to cancel your O2 TV pass at any time follow these simple steps:

    * Go to the O2 TV homepage on your phone
    * Click the My O2 TV link
    * Then click Manage My Pass and follow the instructions to cancel your pass.

You don’t have to cancel a twenty four hour pass because this automatically expires after 24 hours.

Btw I use this through browser to watch all Heineken cup rugby, and I can say this is pretty ****ing good. Like I have no issue with quality on screen, considering its a stream, and really think its priced very well.

Is there an alternative to this for people who aren't on the O2 network?

I'm assuming you need Android 2.2 or higher for this to work? Or does it not use flash?

Yes. You can use the Sky app.

    No, works with 2.1

Where do you get the Sky App?

...interesting. So you can buy say the channel for 99c a day and can watch it on 3g without being charged for data or is data on top?

I assumed that Sky would have an Android app for this but after a quick search in the Market, it doesn't seem to be there - guess I was wrong!

I was wondering how you stop being automatically renewed on the monthly pass, I eventually found the answer in the Ts & Cs on the O2 TV app on the phone, it says the Ts & Cs are also at www.o2.ie/o2tv but they are not there.

You can cancel the monthly pass at any time and the existing pass will then run it's course and not be renewed so if you don't want a renewal, cancel the pass a few days before the 30 days is up, otherwise it will be renewed automatically. The daily pass is for 24 hours and automatically expires with no renewal so you can't cancel it.

I read a recent article saying they are working on it and should have one by September. apparently the problem with the rights protection or something
